My aunt who is a wondeful person has had skin cancer and breast cancer, has now been told that she has bone cancer. This explains why her bones keep breaking and now totally healing. I know that there is not a cute for this. How long does she have to live? Is there any type of treatments that can help? She has 3 kids, 6 brothers and sisters, and her mother is still alive. All of them would be deeply affected by her loss. I feel horrible about it. Especially since we recieved the news right after Christmas. What can I do to show support to her and my father (her brother)?

The medical world has made huge strides in fighting cancer. Bone cancer sometimes can be treated with stem cell implants among other things. Start researching the type of cancer your aunt has so you can be totally informed about the subject. Doing that will also help you give her the support she needs right now. If it is at all possible, maybe you could visit her doctor with her so you can hear first hand just what this method of treatment is going to be and what her prognosis may be. God bless you all. My prayers are with you.

First of all, I am sorry that you family, and your aunt especially, has to go through this. As I have already had skin cancer (caught early, thank God), I live in constant fear of cancer showing up in some other part of my body, having been there for a while, waiting to attack since I didn't detect it sooner with a CAT scan. How long your aunt has to live is best answered by her oncologist. And even that won't totally answer the question. They can give their best estimate, but sometimes the will of the patient can well outlast the doctors' predictions. I don't know the websites off the top of my head but different teaching hospitals, centers specializing in the treatment of cancer and pharmaceutical companites are constantly running drug/treatment trials for different types of cancer. Do a web search on your aunt's specific type - perhaps through webmd.com even and see what you can come up with.
