This doesn't really have anything to do with anything, but it's something I've always been curious about. You know how you have to fast for a certain number of hours before surgery (because of the anesthesia)? Well, what if a person has to have emergency surgery and they just ate before it? What happens?

The reason they do not want you to have eaten is because one of the side effects of anesthesia is nausea and vomiting. A semi-conscious person often inhales the stuff, and comes down with a pneumonia. Often, in the emergency room, if the surgery can wait, they wait. Sometimes they pump the stomach first, and sometimes when there is no time, they operate anyway, and hope, filling the patient with meds that reduce the nausea.... but it is always risky....

Helpful?

They perform the surgery regardless. Certain precautions have to be taken in case the person vomits while under anesthesia.

Probably nothing. It is a precaution against vomiting during surgery so the patient doesn't choke while unconscious. During emergency surgery the staff is usually prepared for such a thing.

i could get a 2d opinion. Even for something as minor as that, the way i seem at it, any time you ought to decrease into something could be a final motel. i don't be attentive to lots approximately carpal tunnel, yet relying on what you do this brought about it, in line with possibility see if there is actual therapy or something you're able to do to augment those muscle groups or something.

The stomach can be emptied by suction and the person will probably be intubated anyway.
