We don't believe that any god exists.

By definition, that's the only common characteristic.

Although I wager that we would not be welcome at Fred Phelps' Sunday morning services, either.

There are atheists who remain demagogues over some ideology or outlandish belief, such as the Raelians (who are atheists but believe aliens planted humans on the earth) or radical Communists (such as Lenin or Mao). However, most atheists value rational, skeptical thought.

Well, the obvious one that there isn't/aren't god/s.

And that science is basically the answer to all of these questions (how we came to be, etc.).

atheism.

in other words, they don't believe in a higher power, and many of them say they put their faith in science. at least the ones i know, so don't quote me on that one.
