My mother told me that yellow dresses and themed weddings are bad luck. Is it true?

They are bad luck only in Winter and Fall, 'cause they would look stupid.

I don't believe that. Yellow is a color associated with sadness so that's probably where that thought came from. However, it is also the color of the sun - and how beautiful is that!! My aunt wore a pale yellow dress at my wedding a year ago (she was the maid of honor) and I had told her to pick out any dress and any color that she felt most comfortable in. It looked absolutely gorgeous on her. I don't think there is anything wrong with yellow - don't let it worry you.

She probably just doesn't want to tell you how Godawful putrid they will look unless your Oprah! Yellow is an awful color for Bridesmaids dresses. The only bad luck would be that none of your bridesmaids would get a date in that horrible color. If your wearing white then go with something neutral and then decorate with yellow flower centerpieces if yellow is your favorite color. You'll have the best of both world's at your wedding. Good luck on your W day! '-)

I too, think that just sounds like a superstition! But you should check with the bridesmaids on it...they may totally hate the idea, and if you are INSISTING on them wearing yellow they may resent it alot, and on top of it, have to pay for the darned things themselves, and probably won't ever wear it again. Not very nice requirements to MAKE for your dear friends who may very well not appreciate it or the EXPENSE. If you really like yellow, maybe incorporate it into accessories or the flower theme, or your cake decorations...yellow roses decorating the cake, or daisies/roses at the table..I'd ask for sincere input from your wedding party. It would be considerate.

I've never heard of that. A lot of people have themed weddings. I bet about 75% of weddings have a "theme" to them. What a stupid thing of your mother to say. And yellow is my favorite color. I wore a yellow prom dress and I loved it. Good luck. And remember it's your day do whatever you and your fiancee want.

I actually have heard of this. It's specific to a certain culture which I can't remember at the moment. Anyway, my mom's bridesmaids wore yellow (40 years ago) and they are still happily married today! I say pick a color you really love and that won't make you're bridesmaids hate you!

This was all I was ever told as far as wedding colors, but it doesn't really relate to bridesmaids..it relates to the bride:
Married in White, you have chosen right. Married in Grey, you will go far away, Married in Black, you will wish yourself back, Married in Red, you will wish yourself dead, Married in Green, ashamed to be seen, Married in Blue, you will always be true, Married in Pearl, you will live in a whirl, Married in Yellow, ashamed of your fellow, Married in Brown, you will live in the town, Married in Pink, your spirit will sink.

I think you should choose whatever you like. Your bridesmaids will only have to wear them once anyway. My best friend's bridesmaids dresses were beautiful pale yellow and she complimented them well with hand-picked sunflowers before the ceremony (not to mention, saved the cost for a flourist.) It was absolutely beautiful.

I had the regular bridesmaids in dark green and the junior attendants in light blue clearance Easter dresses that I picked up for $3 apiece. Anything can work. they all looked beautiful! Go with whatever you want! It's your wedding.

yellow is a good shade particularly while you're turning out to be married interior the summertime. i dont know the place you will locate them yet dont get a similar sort of attire for all of the bridesmaids, variety the varieties and the colors of the colour.

It's only unlucky because all your bridesmaids will hate you forever after you make them buy and wear YELLOW dresses! Choose another or alternate color that will look more flattering than just yellow and they will be eternally grateful (and you won't have to find new best buddies!)

Happy New Year and best wishes for your wedding & marriage!

Your mother is using old wives' tales and superstition to scare you into believing nonsense. A marriage can only be bad luck if you have meddling in-laws who try to sabotage it...You need to have your wedding the way YOU want and not try to please everyone else.

Do what you want and don't worry about superstitions. It sounds like your mom just doesn't want you to get yellow bridesmaid dresses...
