Well, even though Sony represents Blu-Ray Disc, HD DVD is
a less expensive alternative, and their newest versions offer the
same 1080p resolution including in the Xbox 360. Burger King is
even promoting their own video games to be used in the 360 set.
Neither format is for sure yet as to its success, but if you want
one now, see which one offers the most movie titles and decide
from there. If you play video games, perhaps getting the newest
Xbox will be the least expensive way to get into the new HD on
video with the least amount invested.

I would wait until prices are lowered and a clear winner is determined. I belive the sucess of the new game systems will also affect which format wins over the other.
Buy a dvd player with HD-upconversion to get 1080i resolution for about a 100 US.

well if you can remember back to the old days when movies were in a big plastic box called a tape, then you should remember their early days. there was an epic saga going on between VHS (a JVC invention) and Betamax (a Sony Corp. invention) both were very similar and in reality, Betamax was better. however, as we can clealy see, VHS was the winner of the war. It didn't in due to pure, down to the point features. it won because JVC was willing to go abroad. they got support from many comanies and let others produce VHS tapes. so, we as the consumer saw VHS triumph over Sony's Betamax. (this battle can be compared to the war with Microsoft PC's and Mac's. Microsoft lets many companies use and produce it's inventions, while Apple makes and sells all it's own computers. even though many would agree that macs are better, windows has triumphed and has about 90 percent of the market.
back to the point- today, the war has been updated. we're not talking about bow's and swords. we've moved up to guns and tanks. From VHS vs. Betamax to HD DVD vs. Blu-Ray.
just like in the previous fight, Sony's Blu ray is over all better. (i know it might seem like i'm favoring Sony right now) Blu-Ray discs can hold more than twice the information. they can even come in dual layers, meaning that they store twice the information. up to 120GB! a single layer HD DVD stores about 20GB. also, blu ray discs use a blue laser, instead of a red one. hence the name. this laser can read discs faster and with more precision. so, that means for much faster loading times than an HD DVD. it also means for better quality and easier use. there is likely to be less problems when reading data. i mentioned faster loading times. an HD DVD can take up to a minute to load after you press play. it may not sound like much, but try waiting 60 seconds before you get to experience the amazing quality sound and picture of your favorite movie. it is harder to do than to imagine.
really, both offer about the same quality in picture and sound. it all depends on who you like better. currently, HD DVD is backward compatible. that means that you can play them on a regular dvd player. the idea of HD DVD is basically led by Toshiba. it has support from microsoft (who's xbox360 supports hd-dvd with the purchase of additional items) microsoft supports in reality both formats. it also has backing from NEC, Sanyo, Intel, Universal Studios, and several others.
For bluray, it is also backward compatible, and has Sony as its main leader. The Blu-ray Disc has gained a large amount of support in the corporate world with companies like Apple Computer, Dell, and Panasonic supporting it.
The support of 7 Hollywood majors studios (U.S. share 90% in 2005) has already been won. 5 studios (50%) on the inside are currently exclusive to Blu-ray Disc.
so, for now i think that the best idea would be to wait and see who will emerge from the flames as the ultimate winner of the HD era. i'm not placing my money on anyone just yet, but just incase, i'll keep a close eye on Blu-ray.
in reality, both formats are close matched. perhaps we may see computers and dvd players that can support both HD DVD and Blu-Ray in the future??? time will tell

You would need a psychic to tell you what one will win. I say what's the hurry??? I would wait until prices come way down and there are rumors of a player coming out that will play both formats. I would wait 'till these come out so you don't have to worry about who wins.
