Has anyone out there fought in Iraq or Afghanistan and come back feeling positive about it? I've written soldiers during the first year who were very positive about what we were doing and have heard many say it's been great but, I would like more input. I would prefer to here from real soldiers not "I heard" or "I know". If a family member of yours is over there and you don't like it I'm sorry but, it's their choice and they already made it.

Been to both. The media doesn't exactly portray the truth as many of us have lived it. Too many reporters and pundits making oppinions about places that they have never been, doing a job that they never have had. A great deal of good is being done. I have helped feed quite a few families, provided security for schools, kept neighborhoods as safe as possible, given children hope, etc. But there is definitly a suck factor to it as well. We need to continue stabalizing the region, and not pull out one second sooner. I'd hate all the work I, and my brothers in arms be for nothing, and I am quite fearful that politicians pressured by the media are going to run over us regardless, which is shamefull.

I am a military therapist who served in afghanistan. While there are some improvements made not much has really changed in the mindset of the people and western presence is only solidifying its hatred, particularly toward the US. There is a cost to the work of peace...3000+ soldiers plus many more that have been scarrd for life...yes some who had problems before joining but also(10%) of the wounded had no premorbid psychosocial conditions...also lets just say nobody comes back from combat unchanged...we are always positive because we want to believe that are efforts of blood sweat and tears meant something regardless if the reality doesn`t confirm this.

My brother is in Iraq now. He's been there for just over 3 months. He feels we are making a difference over there. He is in the US Army, and he has a very good attitude. He has a wife and 3 beautiful young children. You don't get a real picture of what is going on in Iraq from the liberal media. There is not fighting going on all over the country. We have built schools and roads and we have made a big difference in the infrastructure of that country. I have gotten nothing but positive feedback from my brother. I also hear it at my job. I work at a VA hospital and the vets returning from over there know they have made a difference.

First, I want to say "Thank you!" to all veterans for all they have done. Right or wrong in the public eye- you are all heroes and I love you. I, personally, am not informed enough to decide the terms of war-- I am an American and I support our country 100%- even when I don't understand the fine points.
My nephew did 2 tours in Iraq. He has seen and done things so horrific he can't talk about it- BUT if you ask him if he has any regrets he says, "Only that I can't go back- yet" He saw what was going on 1st hand and believes these people need our help. He would like to see more support on the Home Front. It's not right they risk their lives and see their efforts aren't appreciated.
I also have 2 friends that are active in Afghanistan currently- they are dedicated and believe in what they are called to do.
We need to support them in word and deed. God Bless America.

I was there from march 04-march 05, and my opinion of the situation is that we are doing a good job and helping the country. we do need to let the iraq government take more control over the country so we can pull some soldiers out...but i think i feel positive about it

Everyone I speak to is positive about it, even with doing multiple tours and losing friends. They know they are fighting for something.

I don't have any first hand experience but most people on here won't so I guess this is better than nothing.

you're able to have a greater effective threat of surviving in Afghanistan.lots of the squaddies ,and that i take advantage of that be conscious loosely, have been ploy boys or squaddies with little or no training, and little or no kit to guard them.on the north area they used the british formations of combating.this is, form a line and march into conflict. The south, did a splash greater effective via utilising conceal to combat.it somewhat is a ask your self it lasted 3 days.

I served in Iraq and saw everything the news media is not telling you. We are making a difference over there - and if people let us finish the job we will change the world for the better.

I just wish that the media would provide more balanced reporting of our progress over there.
