Cats definately know when you are giving them affection! My female always pushes her head back into me when I kiss the top of her head and purrs and my male licks me right back on my chin. It's not that I have food on me or anything like that because he onlys licks once and does it every single time I kiss him, no matter how many times I kiss him in a row. When I hug him, he always relaxes back into me and just lays there. Neither run off. If they run off, they are only sitting still to apease you but if they stay, they realize what you're doing.

Cats know there is love bonding but there is more love when you scratch the cat in places the cat likes to be scratched. Also, this might sound weird, but when cats want to show affection, they rub their heads together in a back and forth circular motion. If nobody is watching you, you can try rubbing your head on the cats head. You have to have a close connection with the cat before you do this. And it isn't something you do for a long time, it's only like 5 seconds long. Doing so shows love and connection, the cat will see you as family.

Of course they know that you are giving them love. They can feel the loving energy. If the cat is really spoilied and a brat, and self absorbed, then it might feel the love and just act like it dosent and is sitting long enough to apease you.

Cats know a lot more than most people give them credit for. I think they always know that you're giving them love, but whether they appreciate it or not depends on the cat and the situation. There are times when my cat wants to be loved on, and she acts like she enjoys it (purring, rolling on the ground for belly scratches, etc) and there are times when I try to love on her and she gets bratty about it and stalks off.

My cat loves hugs and kisses most of the time. He purrs and burrows his head into my neck and rubs his head on my face. I guess it depends on the cat.

I don't know if they know you are giving love but when they lay on you and lick you and rub you with their head, they are showiing you they trust you and you are a member of their family. I read it in a cat care book and also that cats think of their owners as a substitute mother.

i think that my cats know that i am loving on them when i am giving them kisses and rubbing behind their ears. first of all, they react when i am giving them loving like they know what is going on. second, when i am on my way out the door for work or something else like that, and they want attention, and i cant give it to them, they get mad and stalk off. so, i figure, if they can get mad, then they can know what love is, right?

I think cats know that this is how "their" human expresses affection for them. They may not entirely understand it but some cats (like mine) have learned to get the affection they want though how I give it to them. Dogs and cats try to teach us their ways of displaying affection also. My cats rub against me and gently bite me, my dogs will rub against me and lick on me. My cats also try to involve me in their play, which is a bit aggressive and can hurt human skin . . . I've tried to teach them how to play with humans. Dogs are also pretty rough when they play, my dogs are small but if they try to involve me in their form of playing I usually get knocked around a bit. LOL . . . again I've tried to teach them how to play with me in a way that is fun for them and fun for me.
You're cat will tolerate your human ways but your cat also will understand your intentions.Somes cats are better at this than others.

They know. They love you too I am sure, but they tend to not want to be hugged for too long. They definitely love you though, otherwise they'd claw to get away!
