How old is the child/kid?

Infants get it often just after they're born, due to poor esophagus and valve developement existing above the stomach opening which allows stomach acid to come back up the pipe to the throat, causing heartburn and burning pain and vomiting, etc.

Most grow out of it at about 6-8 months, but some do not and they may need medicine, minor surgery, etc, depending on how severe it is.

Some older kids may get it or have it, too. And not always due to stress, either.

Heredity, the particular foods eaten and when they are eaten during the day, how much food is eaten at one time, etc, all play a part.

My son, now almost 4, had it for 8 months after birth and had to take liquid Tagamet and then another different medicine for it, as he threw up so violently after every meal and cried so hard, they were concerned about damage to his throat and esophagus.

He's fine now, though.

Check with your pediatrician or family doctor about it. If left untreated and it's severe, it can cause erosions or sores in the esophagus and as a result a kid will stop eating or lose vast amounts of weight or even become malnourished due to poor calorie intake.

Truly severe acid reflux may actually be a symptom of several other problems, so if it's bad or frequent (several times a day or constant) it's best to get it checked out and treated as soon as you can.

This book is probably the most informative and practical guide on the subject of acid reflux and heartburn that I have ever read https://tr.im/acidrefluxcauses
I was prescribed Lansoprazole which was brilliant but after two years of aching joints, extreme muscle pain which the doc gave me cortisone jags for, with some research I discovered the drug Lansoprazole was causing these rare side effects but it was I who diagnosed it NOT my doctor, I came off the drug 2 months ago, changed my diet and discovered just eating an apple stops any acid reflux, I eat an apple before bed, brilliant no acid, any time I feel the slightest sign of reflux I simply eat an apple. Apple juice is not that good nor is anything else I have tried including honey at stopping reflux.
