Well, all these religious freaks continue to degrade the ~devil~ and it constantly amuses me. Religion happens to be the oldest form of crowd control there is. They use fear ( do it our way or burn in hell) and exploit ignorance. It is the ~devil~ who has kept all these religions in business. How can they possibly condemn something that keeps them going?

There is no real person called the Devil -- this is an invention by religious people, to create an enemy for God.
In fact, the Devil is the embodied energy of all human passions and instincts, which humans have a hard time controlling.
When we can't control something with our brains, we need a scapegoat to blame -- voila' in comes the Devil myth.
In Christianity, most Evangelicals actually are terrorized by the idea of the Devil -- their imaginations and their fears control them, and they are maniacs in fear of this Devil character.
Evangelicals and Roman Catholics are always blaming this invented Devil, who is actually one of the Gods of their religion.
From childhood, many Christians are taught to live in constant fear of this minor God called the Devil. They are taught to reverence and respect his terrible might and power, just like other Gods. But because the Devil is the enemy of their God, they have to blame every problem in the world on this Devil guy.
The Devil is so powerful that he actually gets to have countless demon soldiers who work for him. If you listen to some preachers, you might think that the Devil is even more powerful than God.
Some Christians are in love with the idea of death and war, and so they beleive that the whole world is caught up in a big military battle between God and the Devil. This is sick and primitive, at best.
Some Christians are taught to live in a state of constant fear. This means, that if they are not careful, the Devil will steal their soul and take it to Hell! Christians are taught to hate and distrust anyone who doesn't accept the local interpretation of 'God & Devil-speak' things that they believe.
In other words, if I was a Christian and I met you for the first time, I would have been trained at church to question you and try to 'discern' whether you have demons or not, kind of like an infection. If you mentioned 'worldly' music or didn't say 'Praise the Lord' four or five times, I would have to guess that you are probably demon-possessed.
Then my next obligation as a Christian would be to either convert you, or destroy you. Christians don't often do the actual destroying of non-believers themselves, but they sing songs every week rejoicing in the day when God will destroy all the people who refuse to beleive what they believe.
Some Christians are basically people who hate other people and have no true value or mutaul respect for other cultures. They invented the Devil God to help them focus their pathological hatred for other people.
Read any hymnal in Evangelical chruch, and the hymns sung talk about the 'glorious' day when God will destroy all the enemies of some Christians, which really means Muslims, Hindus, Jews, gays, Wiccans, and in some places, Democrats.
Some Wiccans consider the Devil to be a symbol of human passion. Some Christians have been trying to eradicate Wiccans and other pagans from the earth for a long time, so some Christians are obsessed with telling lies about Wiccans.
A popular lie among some Christians is that Wiccans worship Satan, the Devil. This is false, although some Wiccans do include discussions of the Devil in their faith practices, including those who practise Tarot. But Wiccans do not worship the evil God of Christianity called the Devil.
No, the Devil is only worshipped by Roman Catholics and Evangelical Christians, who need to give God an enemy to fight. So the Devil is not bad, if you mean the Tarot deck Devil, but the Christian Devil is very bad, just like the dark hidden evil 'treasures' stored in the hearts of many, angry Christians.

The Christian idea of the devil is that he is the central embodiment of evil. So it depends on your faith and what you believe.
Most Christians only know the red horned, fork tailed, pitch fork welding image they’ve been told of by their sects religious figures. It must be nice to use this icon to say “the devil made me do it” rather than to take responsibility for your own actions.
So the best advice is to do your own research from multiple non-faith based sources, then make up your own mind on what is good and bad. Then don’t follow someone else, do what you feel is right.

No one truly wants to live in a completely Godless society. Not even the devil worshipping atheists. They are upset like anyone else when their homes are broken into, or their car is stolen, or they get beat down in the street, or sodomized, or raped, or worse.
You just imagine that a Godless society would be cool because you would be able to do anything you want with out thinking about anyone else, but the problem is, everyone else would be doing the same thing. And yes, this is completely relevent to your question.

Maybe the Devil himself isn't a bad person.
But one must remember; in the bible, in Matthew 4 and I quote: "Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread." Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God." "
The devil attempted to tempt Jesus to sin.
Now i'm not a religious person but surely that would mean that the devil is somewhat of a bad thing.

Tha devil is really that bad!!!!!!! The devil just tries to falsely accuse, steal, kill, destroy, etc...
God allows the devil to make havoc, because we have opened a door for the devil to oppress us. We open a door when we disobey God, like practice sorcery, etc.

The Devil doesn't exist, so how bad can "He" be?
In art, literature, music, and othe culture, though, the Devil has always been much cooler than God. He's a hedonist, a pleasure-seeking, sharp-dressed charmer, whereas God is this boring guy who sits next to boring chicks with wings who strum harps.
Hmm... tough choice: sex, rock and roll, fun, alcohol, pleasure in general, or a boring eternity sitting on a cloud listening to Christian music!

The devil does not have the job of punishing anyone in hell. Hell is a place of punishment, yes. But that punishment is death with no second chance. To be sent to hell is to be forever destroyed.
But he does cause suffering, disease, and slavery in this world.
As we speak, he is the Prince of this world, of the air and the prinicpalities, or powers.
His glory will be short-lived, and he will have no choice but to surrender his reign of confusion (and Yahoo Answers, LOL) and slavery, to be cast into the "bottomless pit", AKA Hell to be destroyed along with unrepentent sinners)
He is a Punishee, not the Punisher.
He is not performing a "service" to anyone, he is doing you and everyone else disservice by spreading hatred and confusion. That is his job, and he is a Master at it. Be ye not deceived. To look at him, in all his beauty, is to see the face of evil. Yes he is beautiful (contrary to what you see in movies and art, he is not red with horns and tail), like a temptress luring you into her diseased chambers. Only fools are lured in, to be slaughtered mercilessly.
