My cousin had to take a class and pay $500. His license was suspended until he did those things. We stay in Michigan as well. Most of the time, it is the ticket definitely. Probation, etc doesn't come until after 1st offense.

I don't know about Michigan, but from what I have seen down here in Texas, and I work for a sheriff's department, you will more than likely have to pay a fine, be put on probation, and have to do some community service. I couldn't tell you how much the fine or how much probation or community service you are going to have to do. That is all up to the courts there and your situation.
You having a clean record will help you get probation, however there is a small chance you could sit no more than six months in jail.
Good luck...

Well the first thing you need to do is get counsel (an attorney) they will help protect your rights and walk you through the entire process. If you don't have the required funds to appoint an attorney they will give you one free of charge (court appointed) assuming that you have a clean record (no past convictions) you will most likely get a year on probation, fines, possible community service, and a outpatient rehab (AA) ect.. I know this because i work for a sheriff's dept here in michigan
