I'm 14 weeks pregnant, and I've read a lot about how if you have symptoms of back pain, that it could be a sign of a miscarriage. I have had these extremely sharp pains in the top portion of my back, ...and I mean SHARP SHARP pains. Almost like I'm being stabbed. Is this an aweful sign? It's not a constant pain, it's just when I bend a certain way, or lean a certain way etc. What could this be? Please help. Thank u.

Also, Should I be feeling flutters? This is my first baby and I'm already feeling little butterfly's. Is this normal if you're 14.5 weeks??

first of all i don't think you have nothing to worry about the sharp pain you will have a lot of pain and aches your first trimester i think you should not worry a lot because if you worry to much that is not healthy either. i think you are to early to start feeling flutters.

Don't worry. The little "butterfly" feeling you are having is a very good sign that your baby is healthy. Yes, even at 14.5 weeks. Everyone is different and some women do feel their baby this early.

The sharp back pains you are having are not all that uncommon. My sister had terrible back pain all through her pregnancy. If you experience back pain accompanied by bleeding or other negative symptoms, then I would be concerned and call your OB / midwife.

I felt flutters at 14.5 weeks. Its uncommon but not impossible. You'll stop feeling anythign for a while. Thats normal.

The stabbing pains in yoru upper back are probably either gas, or congestion in your lungs.

There is nothing about your uterus or the baby that would directly effect your upper back. But pregnancy gives you tons of gas, and it can get caught up high under your ribs and is insanely painful.

Back pain isnt a sign of miscarriage. some times if you have certain kinda of contractions with back pain it can be a sign, but back pain alone isnt.

You're backs going to kill while youre pregnant, and thats perfectly normal.

I think lower back pain is a sign of a miscarriage...

I did not have any pain when I miscarried...

My best advice: Call your doctor and explain what you are feeling -- they will ask you to come in for a check up - even just to be sure that things are ok.

Flutters... yea... at 14.5 its normal to feel a flutter or two.

You said the pains are in your upper back? I don't think that would have anything to do with a miscarriage. It could be a pinched nerve or something. If you don't start bleeding, don't worry. Lie down with a hot pack on your upper back to relieve the pain and relax today. If, however, you begin to have abdominal pain and/or bleeding with it.... call the doctor asap!

When a woman is miscarrying or in labor, the back pain they talk about is lower back pain.

Put on some soft music and close your eyes, watch a favorite show, read a book.... whatever you need to do to relax.

Best Wishes,

Sue
