I have a shepard/collie mixed and I asked my vetr the same thing, they said there was no need to do that and my pup is now 11 months and has no problems.

If the dewclaws are hanging free, then I would definitely have them removed. If they are attached by bone, then it is really a personal decision. If you are ever planning on doing anything like agility, search and rescue, or the like with her, then I would get them removed even if they are jointed. The reason being, it is very easy to catch one of those nails when doing those sorts of activities, and ripping one is a very painful thing. If the dog is just a pet, and the claws are attached by bone, then there really is no need to take them off.

As some of the others have said, if the dewclaw is not causing the dog any pain or problems you can just leave it alone. I asked my vet about this with my pup since one of hers was just hanging and fell off, but she still has the other. He told me they can remove it when she comes in to get spayed, as yours apparently did too. If you really want it removed you should have him do it then, that way they already have the dog under antestetic (can't spell sorry) and its not unduly stressful for him/her :)

I think this is to old to have anything docked. Others do it ...I just feel it is to old.
I feel ears, tails, dew claws should be done within days, not months....these are all things done for looks not for necessity.
We got our pup at not quite 7 weeks (within 2 days) and she already had her tail, and dew claws docked, all healed up etc. as I think it should be.

Unless she is a hunting dog and is constantly getting her dew claws caught on brambles & such to where they are being injured, there is no point in removing them.

If they are just like a chunk of skin with a nail on it, they are bothering her or causing problems, yes. If you think that you want them removed it is best to do it when she is already having surgery.

No.
It serves no purpose to have them removed.

Only if they are likely to be a problem.
