I have been to several trainers! I am assuming that you looked into it and saw the price and decided against it. Well the best training I have ever seen is free! His name is Cesar Millan and he studies dog behaviour and why the act/react the way they do! I have made improvements by leaps and bounds with my two chinese Cresteds. He is on the National Geographic channel and I suggest you watch him work with the animals before you buy his books and DVD's, you will have a better idea of what he is talking about. I taught my male to walk on a leash in a matter of minutes. Actually (although I am almost ashamed to say it) I taught my dogs most of what they know from the Millan show (The dog whisperer) It took me a couple of tries to throw (litter ally) a hand full of chicken nuggets in the middle of the living room floor and not have either dog touch them. Of course my husband thought I was loopy when he came home to nuggets all over the floor LOL

Go to the library and get a lot of books about training dogs! Do it yourself! That's what I did, my dog is very well behaved and I taught him myself.
Those books in the library really do help! Just look up 'Dog Training' and you'll find tons of books under dog training! And maybe you could rent some dog-training videos too...
There is also Google... Look up dog training under google and you'll find a lot of useful dog training websites!
Good luck!

I suggest going to the library, the dog training resources there are usually endless, free and effective if you are interested in investing the time to read and the time to follow through with what you learn from the books.

Be persistent!
use the same words-
EXP- go outside?
Want to go walk?
Want water?
come-
sit-
lay down-
NO-
and so on, the dog learns the words you say- but if you mix words the dog will get confused.
like one time you say, wanna go out?
and next time you say , wanna go potty... see, crate training is easy, for the first few time when you put him in, leave the door open, put a blanket in there to give him security, and call it "
We call it the box"
when we say go to your box, they understand.
Hope this helps!

The Dummies line of books is surprisingly good for basic obedience as well as the Nothing in Life is Free method. (This is best after a few basic commands have been masterd. Sit, Stay, Heel.)

There are several books and videos available at places such as Pet Smart. The key points to remember are consistancy and to be firm. The essential tools are treats and a good leash. Start as soon as possible and good luck!

your best solution is to research your dogs breed on the internet, it will give you a better understanding of their temperament.
never hit your dog, and make sure you never feed your dog human food (except rice, mince meat and vegetables)
anything else will make your dog hyperactive and it wont learn much.
reward your dog when it does something good, and make sure you give it plenty of excersise.
