Chocolate does not go bad - if it has a powdery off-white coating on the chocolate, this is called "blooming" and is the only sign of old chocolate. Blooming occurs as chocolate ages and the fats start to seperate out of it.

Although it affects the texture and is not as visually appealing, even heavily "bloomed" chocolate is not dangerous.

If chocolate has been kept warm/melted for a long period of time, or is repeatedly melted then hardened, discard it.

I would not risk it. I had half a tin of Quality street out of date by a few months so I binned them. It also saves you putting on those extra calories...lol
