This is not an easy question. We are talking death here. Your own death. Look at your life and look at our country. Can the stakes be high enough, important enough to give up your own life?

What did General George Patton once say, "Let the other poor dumb bastard die for his country. You live for yours." For me, nothing is more important than my family. If we were attacked, on our own soil I would fight for my life and my families lives. I don't want to die for the politics of someone else. I'm a veteran and went all through that during Vietnam. If I believe the cause is right I don't have a problem with it but I won't give up my life and families for the selfish lying scum that just happen to be running the country. You don't see them carrying weapons.

Death is final. It's a matter of faith I guess. If you believe in an after life then there is something better to look forward to. Muslims are the biggest burden to world society. For whatever reason they want all non muslims dead. If there is a God I certainly have to question His tactics.

I wouldn't. I mean, sure America's great, freedom and all that.. but it's not worth dying for. I could easily go to Europe and live in my parents' home country of Poland. Maybe France, I heard it was pretty nice there. America likes to think it's the greatest, and Americans like to think they're better than others as well, but in reality, we're one of the most screwed up countries out.

I wouldn't die for a country unless it was the last country on Earth because I wouldn't have anywhere to go if the country fell apart anyway.

Though, I can understand why others would. It's their pride and joy, and they're willing to keep that pride and joy theirs, no matter what.

This is really an opinionated question, there's no right answer.

Hell no. America? I would die to see the entire governmental system removed, reformed, modernized, and made to work correctly- you know, people wouldn't die for oil or some idiot's pet project, punishments would match crimes, religion and government would have NO ties whatsoever, the losing "war against drugs" would be replaced with the "war against worldwide hunger," two people would have the right to get married by law (no matter the gender), the rich and elite would be forced to share some of the 98% of all wealth that they hold.... That would be a country worth dying for.... not this crap though. Lets see how many thumbs down I draw from this comment!

Yes the stakes can be that high, yes I would be willing to do so, and yes I have come very close to doing so. It has not changed my mind. I would take that risk again. I am a veteran. The fact that I oppose the war in Iraq does not change the fact that I love my country.

Yes, I would.

To die for ones country isn't about how the country is now, but the ideals that lay the foundation in the Declaration of Independance and the US Constitution - the hopes and dreams of future generations.

I am sorry that you don't see enough good in the country to think it worth dying for - how many hundreds of thousands of people did die for those same ideals? I served 6 years in the military preparing for just such a situation. A few of my friends went to war - some didn't come home.

Yes, I honestly would die for my country. I would volunteer if I was young enough and they would let me. My life so far has been great but I believe in my country. Perhaps if I had children depending on me I might feel differently but I'm not sure---after all, I'd be fighting for their future.

Death is nothing to fear if you know Jesus Christ as your personal Savior and have a relationship with him.
If that is what the Lord requires of me than yes, I would die for this great country, I'd go even further I'd die for the sake of the gospel being preached to all the people of the world.

No. Not for my country.

For my fellow man, yes. And I have been in situations where I very well could have multiple times as part of my membership in a search & rescue team.

There would be no nobler death than dying in the service of others.

well, me i don't know. I know I'd die for God but, yes, probably for my country as well to be honest. in our day in age, people especially in America are becoming more self centered caring only for themselves. I tend to wonder if even a third of this nation even cares where America's future is goin to lead to. celebrities certainly aren't good examples to us United States citizens, cause they're too in to themselves or worried of what their peers might think to consider if their country is at stake. this is just my opinion. their are celebrities who care but few, you know? so i'd hope that atleast American's would be willing to die for their country. only in a war could we find out.

Dying for one's country has a certain appeal. A moment's heroic struggle for a noble cause, and then the whole messy business of life is over. No more need for daily ethical choices, no more doubts about anything. The really hard job is living for something.
