i ask this because i've seen lots of beautiful purebreed dogs who come out of their house by themselves and go to the park to do their business by themselves, and then go back to their house!! how on earth did they teach them to properly cross streets and to watch out and everything?

The best answer is you can not! People should not let their dogs run the neighborhood! This is was cause animals to get hurt, hit by a car, get in fights with other dogs, stolen, picked up by animal control!
You should never let your dog just run around on its own it is being a irresposible pet owner.

Don't kid yourself. These dogs are not all necessarily crossing the street properly. Some of them have been flat out lucky. I have a neighbour that thought his dog was smart enough to watch out for cars. After hunting for the dog for four hours and about ten thousand dollars later, the dog is back home. And has the dog learned? No.

A responsible dog owner would never let it's dog out by itself. A responsible dog owner picks up after his pet and keeps him on a leash to keep him out of harms way.
Left-Right-Left (As in look left, right, left) doesn't work on dogs like it works on kids when they're learning to cross the street!

not really a good idea. You might be able to control you dog. But you cant control traffic. You dog might cause a serious accident or get hit by a car. Never a good idea to let you dog off there leash do that.

In the UK this is against the law, as dogs have to be under control at all timed in a public place

There is no way you can teach your dog to do this. The dogs you see may have been brought there a thousand times by their owners and go there intinctually. Their owners are simply lazy and don't care if their dogs get hit by cars.
This question is childish and insulting, by the way, so flag this you jerk!

well i don't think you should allow your dog to cross the street without a leash and you....its just not safe....your dog should always be in view of you when he's outside and he should be on a leash...i hope this helps!

I don't think it's a good idea. For reasons that I would hope I don't have to explain.
Besides, you have to go with your dog so you can clean up after it!
