be the better punching bag? Maskaev, Klitschko, Valuev?
Meaning which one could take the most punishment before tasting the canvas if paired against those 3 decade's top 5 ranked fighters.

ood for thought for the Euro/Slav lovers out there. Lennox Lewis would clean these guys clocks in his prime. So don't be throwing the American BS in this direction.

Great question Brent and each of these guys would indeed be a punching bag not only against the top fighters like Ali, Norton, Frazier, Foreman, Holmes but Quarry, Ellis Lyle, Foster and some of the others would also beat on them like a drum. My guess here is that Valuev would be able to take a beating a little longer. Anybody that actually thinks that any of these guys would beat the fighters from the 70's to 90's is sadly mistaken. The talent level particularly in the 70's was just greater and is a fact and not a biased opinion.

I am totally going to change my opinion about these Russian boxers. These guys are tall Valuev and Klitschko are 7 ft.with an arm reach of 85 in. Ali was 6'4'' at the tallest and had a reach of 82in. to give you a comparison. Maskaev is 6'3'' reach 79in and his ability as a boxer is improving. I will put any one of them in my top ten if they beat the other. As far as the question Ali in his prime could not be hit. He was hurt by Cooper but that was the only one. Ali would win by decision against any of these guys. He probably couldn't knock the taller ones out or down. Foreman is the only other fighter out of my top five that could put any punishment on them. Frazier would have a tough time hitting a 7 foot guy who had an 85 inch reach. Holmes had a great jab but would be out classed by a bigger guy.

I think Valuev would take the most punishment, we have all seen that Maskaev and Klitschko dont have very good chins and as soon as they got in with any of the greats they probably wouldnt last two rounds, Valuev would probably last a little longer but not because of his skills because he hasnt got any, his height would cause problems and boxers like Frazier and Tyson might take a while to put him away, but eventually jumping left hooks would put pay to Valuev in what would go down as two of the most impressive KO's in history.
So to sum up Klitschko and Maskaev last on average 3 rounds, Valuev lasts on average 5 rounds but takes severe punishment in every fight as his defensive skills arent up too much.

Maskaev would be the set up guy for someone to move up to a title shot. He's tasted the canvas more than his own Mama's cooking. The heavies of the 70's thru 90's would clean up on these guys. They would take turns on seeing who could administer the worst punishment on them--kind of a round-robin turkey shoot. It's amazing how watered-down the competition became after they had more belts to fight for. Even second-rated heavies like Bonavena, Chavalo, Quarry could match up well against these wimps.

They wouldn't last a round! They're bums compared to the greats of the past.

Well we know klitsko has no chin, and maskaev is just a bum. I would have to say valuev. Only because he is so tall it might be harder to reach up and hit his chin. But overall he is a bum to.

Maskaev - knocked out FIVE times

Klitschko - stopped cold TWICE, and gets knocked on his as* if you look at his chin.

Valuev - undefeated against greats like Monte Barrett.

Take your pick.
