Itchy mouth from Eggplant?

Christmas Eve I made a non-breaded eggplant parmesan type of dish and a couple of us had a very itchy mouth and a cple of people did not. My neice's lips are still swollen two days later.

It doesn't sound like an allergy. Was the dish too hot? Did a couple of you burn your mouths? Did you use too much salt? Many people have swelling (especially of the lips) after consuming too much salt.

If this is the first time it has happened to you when eating egg plant maybe it was the type of seasoning you used or the type of cheese you used.
