..and the waiter came by and told her to go into the bathroom! WTF? I know this is none of my business, me being a man and all, but I think it's messed up that a lady has to go to a filthy public restroom to feed her hungry child! I mean she wasn't entirely exposed. She kind of had a blanket draped around her, but it was very clear what she was doing. I didn't see a problem with it though. I mean, her kid's hungry. What's the big deal about public breastfeeding?

some of us don't like it, I witnessed an incident like this too and the women said "It's a natural body function" and the waiter allowed her; after this I urinated on the table and when the waiter complained I pointed out "It's a natural body function too, if she keeps hers private so will I."

If the restroom of the restaurant is so filthy then maybe the kitchen is too...so why even eat there?! I agree there in nothing wrong with breast feeding but most places (even restrooms) provide diaper changing stations so all of a babies needs can be tended there. Discretion is fine but not all women are discreet, and who wants to be in a crowded restaurant...possibly entertaining a client at a business luncheon...or meeting their fiance's parents for the first time...or having young children with them (who notice everything and ask a million questions), when the woman at the next table it partially exposed and feeding? Breast feeding is natural...but should be done in a quiet, relaxing place where the mother and baby can bond...not in a crowded public place while she's trying to juggle her fork in one hand, cell phone in the other and still hold the baby and maintain the "blanket coverage"

None. And you should have stepped up to the plate to say "dude, breastfeeding in public is fine." If you are a regular there, you should go back and tell the waiter or manager, so that they don't do it to the next new mother.

Just think, that may have been the lady's first time breastfeeding in public, and now she might be shamed into always bf'ing in the "privacy" of a filthy bathroom rather.

Of course, most mother's do it discreetly, so if she had her top off and was massaging her other breast while looking seductively at the waiter, my answer doesn't stand.

There is absolutely no way I would’ve breast fed mine in a public bathroom. A woman can breast feed quite comfortably while being discrete and covered. I wouldn’t nurse in a restaurant because if at all possible you need to nurse in a quiet, calming environment for the good of the child. The child could probably pick up on all the uneasy vibes from all those prudish diners.

Having said that, people need to get over their discomfort with breastfeeding. This is the purpose for the female breast. This is normal and natural, good for the child, good for the mother and should be encouraged. Get over it.

I am a manager in a restaurant and have been in the business for almost 20 years. The waiter was wrong. Period. The child has as much of a right to eat as anyone else in the restaurant. Although some people pointed out that exposing ones breasts in public is illegal, as far as I know, breastfeeding is not. It is sad that we, as a country, find it offensive when natural acts, such as breastfeeding, are performed in public. I guess its the land of the free as long as it's not done in public where you might offend someone.

It's called "conservatism" and it is the reason America is so uptight and violent about sex and drugs. Look at Europe, where nudity and the beauty of the human body is as common as prime time disembowelment is here. Not a lot of sexual predators or whiny religious right-wingers there, are there? People are simply free to live as they will, without harming others.

The lady should have told the waiter to go screw himself in a very stern voice, and if the police showed up called a lawyer. Only uptight assclowns find breastfeeding offensive.

If people doesn't like a person breastfeeding at a table then they don't like nature. Now it's one thing if a woman is desently feeding her child and it's another if she flops out the breast openly and holds the baby for all to see. My question is to the ones who has a problem with somone breast feeding a child in public when they are being considerate and covering up How would you like to eat your meal in a dirty filthy public restroom. Cause I have seen some pretty nasty dirty filthy inconsiderate belching farting people in a resturant before and I'd much rather see a baby being fed then to see other nasty things adults can do....

Nothing that waiter should be ashamed.

If a waiter had ever had the gall to come up to me while I was feeding my child I don't think I would be a patron of that restaurant again.

Bravo to you for understanding that breastfeeding is just a part of life. A lot of men I know get very uncomfortable around women that are breastfeeding.

You know I find it more disturbing to read yours and others who defend the woman and chastise the waiter. Some people call it tact, others might call it respect for others around you. Whatever the case may be there are a lot of people here who need to learn a little of both. Just because it is a natural act doesn't make it right to do it out in the open, in front of people for all to see. Sex is a natural act, but there are times and places to do it. The same with belching and flatulence, both are natural acts and yet there is a time and a place to do it. It doesn't surprise me there are "noble" men (and I use the term noble loosely) here who want to try to defend the woman for breast feeding in public because I am sure each one of them sees it as a natural occurrence and would never think twice about looking, then you have the "I am woman hear me roar" people who want to defend a woman's rights to do whatever. I am all for a woman breastfeeding and raising her child as natural as possible, but that doesn't mean it has to be done for all to see. If a child is hungry there are other options one has to go about feeding the child without this being one of them.

It's amazing, when you look around, to see how much society is accepting what is being done as OK. Things that were at one time thought of as being wrong. They put a nice package around it with a pretty bow and call it evolution or progression of the human race. This isn't a good thing. At one time there was a reason these things were looked down on, and it wasn't to oppress people or persecute them...its called decency and respect for oneself. How long will it be before nudity is accepted on regular TV and full penetrating sex be shown on movie channels? I mean its a natural occurring thing right? Based on some people's train of thought on here, as long as it is natural it should be ok to do it in a public setting. Why not put toilets instead of chairs at tables in restaurants so people don't have to leave their food when they need to go to the bathroom? It's a natural body function.

Because people seem to forget about a mother's right to feed her child. Also some people think that if little kids are in the restaurant or any place where a breastfeeding mother is, that the children shouldn't be exposed to that because it causes emotional problems. I agree it's ridiculous. Don't these people know it's a mother's right to breastfeed her child and that breastfeeding has more benefits than bottle fed children. Like for example breastfed children are more smart than bottle fed children. Breastfed children have less stress and pain in their lives. Breastfed children have stronger immune systems than bottle fed children. Breastfed children have stronger bones and teeth than bottle fed children.

There is nothing wrong with it at all! The waiter had no right to tell her that - and I hope she didnt go! Would you eat your meal in a public restroom? Why should her child?

Breastfeeding is the most natural thing in the world - why people cant see this is beyond me! Thats why the breast produce milk -to feed our children.

Some people are just ignorant & only see the breast as a sexual instrument.
