My friend and I are debating if drinking coffee through a straw will help prevent our teeth from turning yellow and stained. Is it a dumb idea?

It's not going to prevent it. Think about it this way, drinking it out of a cup, the coffee still goes behind your teeth. It's the act of swallowing which swishes the coffee around in your mouth. Continue to get your teeth cleaned twice a year; stop drinking coffee.

No I don't think it will prevent your teeth from staining bc once you sip the coffee thru the straw it gets into your mouth anyways and there is now way to prevent it from touching your teeth (well unless you just pour it straight down your throat, which seems painful!)
Also, if you are drinking hot coffee, the straw will melt if its left in the cup and ruin your whole drink.

It won't completely prevent it, but it does help bypass some of your teeth
