I work in an office where one of the new manager's first moves was to put her sister in a created assistant manager postion. Life in our happy little office has been hell since then. The woman hates to work, is very unpleasant , for no reason, and makes mistakes that affect all, all over the place. And no one can say ANYTHING because she's the boss' sis. Several long time employees have left already, and many of the rest of us have the resumes out. IT IS NOT A GOOD IDEA.

Nope never a good idea to work with family. Other employees will feel as though there is preferential treatment. If the family member under performs or is a problem employee in any way it reflects poorly upon you.

My mother and I work at the same place and it has worked out fine. On occassion we work on the same day. But we usually don't work in the same area. At the place we work for, many high school and college kids work part-time there, and their parents work full-time. It usually works out pretty well. It depends on your relationship with the person, as well as the company. As long as everyone has breathing room and doesn't have to work together all the time, it would be ok.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It depends on the bosses and if they will judge you by your family members actions if they turn-out to be no good and have to be fired.

If the company is big enough than you probably don't have anything to worry about because you'll work in different divisions for different managers anyway.

In small companies I'd keep family out of it, though.

Absolutely NOT!

You should never crap where you eat. It's too personal a connection. It a better idea to ALWAYS seperate business from pleasure. You may have one or two family memebers that you can rely on... but proceed with caution because if anything goes wrong and you have to fire them from the business it can cause a great rift in the family unit and get really UGLY.

If you just work for the same company, i would say there's no problem. But if you work together, then there can be problems. And even worse is if one is a boss and one is the employee. That's just asking for trouble. And besides people will say you playing favorites.

I had a friend that the boss ended up marrying one of the employee's she got a promotion, and it created all kinds of problems. Not for them, but for everyone in the business.

One word i think of is BEWARE!

It's probably not a good idea to work in the same department, although if you worked in the same place but in other departments that might work okay.

I've worked with my fiance at two different jobs. There were some problems that wouldn't have occurred had we worked different places. I've also worked with my mother, which is almost impossible to do. If you can avoid it, don't work with family.

Most definitely not!! If they get fired, quit or take advantage of the company, your name is also on the line. Unless they are 100% trustworthy and honest, don't involve family & friends with your co-workers!!

no...because that family member either gets treated differently and people never keep personal things out fo the work place. if you fight with this person then your stuck with them at work too.
