Here's some ideas:

-Put it in a cup and mix in some juice or kool aid. Give it to them to drink and they won't even notice it's in there.

-Add flavoring to it. You can get it at a pharmacy and it's only a couple dollars. They mix it in and it makes it taste better.

-Mix it into applesauce, pudding, or icecream

We always asked the pharmacist to put sweeteners in the medicine if it is prescription, and he always did. Then the child can't wait to take it!

If there's no sweeteners, mix it into food or drink. If that is not good for the medicine, then make a game out of it (the choo choo train)

Having had children myself and obviousy, was a child once!!! The taste lingers after medication, I found a treat after the medicine can work as some inticement,as in a sweet, biscuit or apromise to go the park, whatever takes his/her tickles the fancy!

i would say explain that they need it to feel better, and how important it is that they take it. Chances are they are still not going to take it, so when that fails, tell them if they take it they can help you make brownies or cupcakes, or if they take it they can get a little toy from the dollar store or some other reward. once they have taken the medicine, have a chaser for them, some time of juice or crackers.

I have a 3 yr old and a 9 month old so I know how you feel oh so well. What we did was explain that they needed this to feel better and when that did not work LOL we waited until she went to sleep and slowly inserted it into her mouth a cc at a time. She tossed and turned a little but it got in. Now that she is almost 4 we don't have that problem anymore. But I am dealing with it now with my little 9 month old. Very good luck to you.

I would ask the pharmacy to add sweetener the next time...but this time you can measure it out...put it in the bottom of the cup (without child knowing-since they already dislike it) and add just a small amount of favorite drink (only an amount that they can drink-and no more than that) mix it and make sure they drink it all...just don't add milk...it absorbs the meds...Good Luck....and hope your child is feeling better soon.

We always get my niece to take her medicine by playing with her, like playing airplane or we all pretend to take some and it makes her curious so she wants some too. But if that does not work we mix it in some juice and she takes it like that. But we always try to convince her to take her medicine. She is only one and she usually drinks it when we don't force her to take and ask nicely and playfully.

The only medicine my son takes on a regular basis is Singulair, which he LOVES the taste of. I'm not sure if you're referring to a pill or liquid but if it's liquid you could always put it in w/ a small amount of juice in their sippy cut (just be sure they finish it all, that's the tricky part). When I have to give my son liquid, I mix it in w/ a small amount of orange juice and it works fine.

oh my, when I was little it was impossible, now it's easy to take medicine with the sweeteners and see if you can mix it in something. When I was little my mom gave me Trix yogurt and she put medicine in it and it still tasted so bad that it came back out allll the way down the hallway...

I always had problems getting my toddler to take his medicine. His pediatrician had recommended putting it in juice, pudding, yogurt and nothing worked! When I used a syringe to put it in his mouth, he spit it right out. Finally, a coworker suggested pluging his nose while doing it. Sure enough, he cannot spit it out because he has to swallow. That was the only thing that worked for me. He wasn't always happy about it, but it did work!
