I am 5'11 and I weigh 250 lbs. I want to lose 50 lbs. What should my caloric intake be? And do I need to watch my fat gram intake as well? Whats the best way for someone who is a very picky eater and doesnt like salads, most vegetables, and hardly any red meat, to go about losing weight? I need some major help and can't afford a personal trainer or a nutritionist.

I took nutrition and advanced nutrition and physical fitness in college. When losing weight is the goal you need to be careful about lowering your calories too much or too quickly to avoid your body thinking that it is starving. If your body starts to think that you are starving it will store all that it can. The way I learned it is to consume 10 calories for every pound that you weigh. As your weight decreases the calories will decrease. The fat content is somewhat important as your body stores excess calories as fat. It is a good idea to limit it to 30% of your daily calories are calories from fat. It is not a good idea to eat no fat as it will likely leave you feeling hungry.

As long as you burn more calories than the number of calories that you consume then you will loose weight. Don't bother with diets. In a word just start walking. If you don't do much walking right now don't start off walking like you are in a marathon. If you can walk around the block once and it isn't any sort of problem for you then walk around twice. Do that daily for a week and gradually increase your distance and speed. Offer to take your neighbors dog for walks (if you don't have one). Don't be in a hurry to loose all the weight. The slower you take it off the easier it is to maintain and keep it off. If you don't like salads or veggies then eat more fruit and soups and drink 10 glasses of water a day. Don't get on the scale and weigh yourself everyday. You will be able to tell how it's going by the way your clothes fit you. After a month of doing this and you do notice a change in how your clothes fit then you can get on the scale (if you want). Remember that muscle weighs more than fat. So it's not so much what you weigh as what are you are weighing (fat/muscle).
Good luck and don't ever give up. If you fall off your routine just get right back on and keep going.

First off, I need to add this disclaimer: I am not a dietition or doctor or medical personal in any way shape or form. The information provided is from my personal knowledge and from research.

When trying to lose weight, remember 1lb of fat is 3500 calories. In order to lose 1lb per week you need to cut 500 calories per day from your diet. For each pound of weight you wish to lose, multiply that by 500 and that's the caloric drop per day. It is not considered healthy to lose more than 2-3lbs per week. The first week or two you will have significant weight loss, (its possible to lose up to 10lbs). After that, however, weight loss will slow down.

This caloric cut doesn't have to be from the foods you eat. This cut can also be suplimented from exercise. If you want to lose a pound a week without cutting on your eating, you can work out and burn 500 calories each day. This shoudl work, in theory. But the best way to lose weight is a combination of "Diet and Exercise".

Exercise isn't limited to just haveing a gym membership. You can get exercise from any number of activities. Try parking farther out at the stores, to force yourself to walk a little farther. If your schedule allows and neighborhood is safe, go for a walk in the evening.

Weight training is effective as muscle requires more calories than fat to maintain. So the "Leaner" you are, the more calories your body'll burn just to maintain itself. If you don't have any weights, use a phone book. holding it in both hand and lifting it like you would a curling iron. Be creative!

The wieght loss may be slow, but it'll stay off. Below is a link to a website that has a calculator for caloric intake. It's helped me lose weight (30lbs so far). By just watching my calories and getting exercise where I can.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.

The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.

Get started today!

its funny u ask...we just learned about this in school. well, first u look at the average amount of calories u take in everyday.(that should be based on how much physical activity u do a day) eat less fatty foods and do more exercising,u don't need a personal trainer, u just need to get out and do some gardening, biking, jogging, just anything that contains physical activity. and if u really need to, buying a workout tape if they help u.
~hope it all works out!~
