Anything is possible. Perhaps you just did not like all the ceremonial stuff that goes on in the Catholic Church. Others, really like it that way. However, you might want to think about Christ, for a minute. If you have a relationship with Him, which is different than a religious practise, you will not be disappoint by Him. Don't give up on God because you are disappoint with people or a Church. People will let you down and disappoint you, God will not. Sometimes people just forget about God because they feel too busy and because their friends don't bother with things of God. Being a child of God is satisfying when you place your hope in Christ and not people. You have to take a stand and not be concerned with what others may say or think. I truly hope that you find your way to this kind of relationship with God. God Bless and all the best to you in the new year.

Most Christians in the world (around 70%), are Catholic. The majority of Yahoo Answers users who would describe themselves as Christians would be American Protestants.American Protestants in particular seem to have an obsession with out-dated conceptions of Catholicism as being a nefarious and satanic attempt at world-domination, this leads to a skewed but nonetheless utterly false portrait of the catholic church. It is as legitimate a faith as any Protestant one, and thus would not make one neither an atheist or a heathen if one subscribes to it. Frankly i find these unwarranted and ignorant attacks more bizarre than hurtful, this question never would have been asked about another Christian denomination.

In my opinion you made a very wise choice it could have course made you move in a different direction all together, then where would you be? Living in a fantasy land , but possibly happy in your own mind, driving folk like me around the twist , I could now be feeling sorry for you instead of feeling happy that you have had a flash of logical inspiration and really 'seen the light'!
As a 'heathen' you are telling every one esp' Christians that you do not believe in any religion, as an atheist I do not believe in God, so it follows that I also do not believe in religion, however I dont care if people want (or need) to believe in God, the main bit I object to is all the different religions, believe in God those who must, but why not do it in your own way, why do you need teachers and leaders to do that?

"What you are is God's gift to you. What you make of yourself is your gift to God." I'm not sure but I think Dag Hemashould (spelling?) first said that. In other words, God made you the first time when you started to grow within your mother. It is up to you to make something of yourself. Catholicism gives us the guides to become better Christians. It is your choice to reject the wisdom given by Catholicism. You made yourself an atheist. Stop blaming others for your decision.

Well, Catholicism has had the opposite effect on more than a billion people living today; that would strongly suggest that the problem lies with you, not with Catholicism.

No, I think if you became an atheist heathen (to use your words) you did that on your own. Catholicism, despite what some think, is still Christianity.

Regardless of your denomination, if you believe in Jesus Christ.
1. You are not an atheist.
2. You are a Christian.
That is not an opinion.

It's possible. I grew up in a Greek Orthodox Church, very similar to the Catholic church and it's teachings and behavior caused me to reject God throughout my adolescence. I have many friends who grew up in Catholic school and completely reject God now b/c of out of touch priests and mean and nasty nuns.

I suggest that you learn of God's LOVE for you and the sacrifice he made. Learn to accept God's love and to love him back instead of putting all Christians in the same boat as the Catholics who left a bad taste in your mouth.

God still believes in you...even if you don't believe in him. I pray that you realize that sooner rather than later.

God Bless!

no you probably looked at the bible as a whole and said to yourself that none of this is realistic and that's why you became atheist i'm agnostic because some things don't seem realistic and at the same time there's not enough evidence to prove or disprove of a higher being

No, but I'm sure that the misinformed attacks on the Catholic faith did. You'd be surprised how many ignorant teachings about the Catholic Church are out there. We don't, despite constant accusations, worship Mary or idols. We aren't cannibals, either. Sheesh, look into the Catholic faith more and you'll find that there is Biblical proof of everything that goes on in the Catholic Church, you just have to be willing to accept it.
