I do not think there is anything wrong with wearing them for him.
In public I would not wear RHT hose with open toe or heel sandals or heels. But in private I would wear anything especially if it makes him feel better and improves our alone time together.

I would tell him it was tacky to wear RHT's in public with sandals. I have many RHT's and wear them only with high heel pumps or boots. Sometimes I will dangle the pump so the heel shows a little but that is it.
In summer when I wear high heel sandals, I have sandlefoot stockings of the same quality and manufacturer as the RHT's with no reinforcements to show, but they are very delicate.
Wearing them in private that is a different matter, I love my RHT's and have no problem wearing them with sandals. or anything else in private.
