Feed him fresh veggies, get him a running circle so he can play in it, Always give him fresh water and keep his cage clean. I suggest holding him and playing with him as much as possible. If you have stopped doing this, try wearing thick protective gloves when holding him at first because then if he tries to bite you, he cant. Girbles are great pets. I use to have several. Also, you might want to find out what sex he/she is and get another one of the same sex so he has someone to play with. Good luck

Seeing as how this is the dog section, I feel like I should tell you to take him to obedience and go for at least two walks a day.

However, it's a gerbil and dog advice doesn't help there.

So what do you mean you don't know what to do with it? You don't want it anymore? Place an add in the paper..."Free to good hom....gerbil, cage and all accessories".

If you are asking how to care for it after owning it for 8 months, well then the above advice still applies.

I'm thinking you mean a Gerbil, despite the fact this is posted under ''Dogs''.
Anyways, gerbils can live up to 2 yrs old, so I'm sure you have plenty of time left to enjoy his company. When the time comes, don't worry about it. There's no way to prevent it from happening.

Give him away to someone who will take care of him.

I gave my three gerbils away to a girl who was going off to college and wanted some small easy to care for companions.
Little kids would probably be fine too.
