Why do people lash out with insults instead of explaining their position on a topic?

The topics of religion are hostile.

When that happens, it's quite often because the person who has a position doesn't even know themselves *why* they hold that position. Religions don't teach people to think deeply, do research, and come to logical conclusions...instead they reward people for blindly and unthinkingly taking the word of their leaders. So asking these kind of people to explain their position on something is a waste of time -- they hold that position because somebody told them to, that's it. Rather than look incredibly ignorant here (though that's what the case really is), they toss insults instead. Makes them feel superior and safe in their ignorance. And that way they don't ever lose an argument or debate, since they never *have* an argument or debate :)

Unfortunatly this form is been used for negative things alot, bashing , insulting , abusive wordings and all by some ignorant peoples....so now its generaly considered that the person who does'nt belong to you religion will ask question either ironicaly or is aimed to insult you...though this is not always the case....there are many good peoples who ask question in very good way about other religions...but those few stupid peoples have damaged the main purpose of this forum. Now i think the asker is needed to explain it in good manner that he/she is asking it just out of curiosity and not for insult..topic of religion is not hostile but those few idiots have made people senstive to everything. now we peopls have very low threshold and its realy sad.

Maybe they're frustrated or tired or hungry. Maybe they can't think of an argument, which makes them scared they may be wrong so they lash out at the source of the fear. Maybe they think it's funny. Maybe it is funny. Maybe they have a personality disorder. Maybe they're drunk. Maybe they're responding to insults against themselves.
That's a pretty vague question.

Isn't any description of Nazis insulting? I have the right to believe there are people just as evil who claim to be normal. If people are going to take my objective views as vituperative, then I might as well use stronger language. Besides, I don't care if Yahoo kicks me off this site.

Many of the 'questions' asked here are not questions at all but simply provocations. Explanations fall on deaf ears. Unfortunately, shouting down idiots has become a necessary practice due to the proliferation of idiots on these bandwidths.

Perhaps because the question asked was belittling, disrespectful, or based on a downright lie.

In other words, when people are treated disrespectfully by the questioner, they tend to reply disrespectfully.

I think the two main reasons are that people are lazy (it's easier to get people to respond to snappy one-liners) and people are just fed up with battling THEM and want to lash out a little bit.

if you look among the insults, you will find some very well thought out and polite responses, from all sides of most issues,,,, its just a matter of ignoring the weeds to get to the flower

The first fifteen times, I behave politely. After my experience and knowledge has been thoroughly dissed because some Christian 'just can't imagine', I don't always maintain my decorum.

That's when I find something else to do. :-)

people are very insecure they feel as though someone is threatening thier intelligence,we know that discussing the bible can be one of the most enjoyable experiences because we do it when people feel threatened in that way they are afraid that you you may push them to an answer that they dont have I certainly dont have all the answers but if I ever quit learning I certainly wont have the knowledge,Jesus said my people die for thier lack of knowledge.....................hope that helped
