If you really want to head on over to Times Square, it is best NOT to drive into NYC for new year's. I recommend taking the ny waterway ferry from port imperial, weehawken to midtown. The ferry shall run every 20mins from 8am - 2am. It takes less than 10mins to get across. Once in midtown, they will provide a free shuttle bus into the city. Parking is $7 & the ferry is $6 each way per adult - if you are traveling w/ children 12 & under they ride FREE!

They are also offering a new year's eve cruise departing @ 10pm; dessert, coffee will be included plus champagne toast & noisemakers w/ live coverage of times square & DJ onboard for $75 (21 & over).

As a native New Yorker, I would advise against being in Times Square for the New Year.

Dont Bother..

if you not have booked a hotel yet, you are either out of luck or will have to pay a fortune. Also Time Square is so overrated on New Years I cant even being to tell you..

Try somewhere else...

i live in new york city and i went for the first time last year. we left around 7 (from queens) and we got off at 42nd street and ended up walking all the way to 54th just to get in. it is insanely nuts but if you like crowds and people all over you, then go for it. it was definately fun and a lifetime expierence, if you want to get close i say go there around 4 in the morning just to get somewhat close

It is INSANE but a once in a lifetime thing to do. Be prepared because it will be like nothing you have ever dealt with before in your life. If it's really cold and you are not well...."warmed up" than it can be rough. If you a toughy then go for it. Not alot of people can say that they have doe it!

times square is a good option if you want to be surrounded by a very large crowd of people.
