My father-in-law lives in another state. He has pretty much no money and lives paycheck to paycheck. When he dies, I have a feeling that all his burial expenses will be left to us and we have no money! We are in our 20's and just starting out with two very young children. So what happens to him if no one has the money to bury him?

What about other family- siblings, his siblings, etc.?

Every country also has gov't assisted funds for these situations. You can find out from your local gov't offices. It works something like welfare- they look at the family's income and expenses etc and they give you a grant if they see fit.

If all else fails, there is a family indemnity insurance for situations such as this. I know that it is an additional cost now but is benificial if you find the right one and he can help pay from now. Took one out for my mom last month.

Life insurance. A small policy to cover burial expenses. People don't realize how important life ins is. Here you have the perfect reason why to have it. See if he has a policy and if not tell him you are going to take one out on him.

I believe the State has a program to assist families with burial expenses. Contact your Congressman/woman to find out how you can avail yourself of the program.

Best of luck to you all.

AS family this is a valid concern. Tlak to him get him to tell you what he wants Cremation (less athen $2,000.00) or burial ($5,000.00 or more) then take him to a near by funural home and have him get his affairs in order most funural homes will give discounts to those who make arangements while still alive. and he can pay for it month to month. (it beat the alternative)

Someone in the faimly will have to pay for it. They will set up a payment plan. Ask him to donate his body to science, it won't cost a thing.

Usually they just put a ham bone up his butt and throw him to the dogs.
