I cut my finger with a buck blade on christmas eve. I was opening a gift and long story short, it was an accident. Anyways, I ran water over it, I applied pressure with towels. After about 3 hours, I went to my sisters house. I showed my littler laceration off and my sisters BF told me super glue helps. So he cleaned up the cut and put super glue on it, then wrapped it with a band-aid. I found a finger splint and I used that until today. Was super glue a stupid dumb dumb move?

I use super glue on my kids and myself all the time! In the ER they use something simular to super glue, it's called Dermabond and it's purple. It does the exact samething. As long as you did what you did, which was clean it out good, allow the bleeding to subside by applying pressure and pinch the cut together before applying the glue, you did great! I think it's an excellent way to fix cuts. Especially if you have a cut on your hand and then you have to put them in water on and off all day, the glue acts as a repelent and there is no stinging. No, not a dumb move at all!!

Super glue will work in a pinch. I recently got a gash on my hand from a glass jar that shattered in my hand. Because it was deep, and on one of my knuckles, I went to the ER because I wasn't sure if it required stitches. Luckily, it didn't. What they did instead is used DermaBond to close up the wound. This stuff is like super glue and holds the cut closed until it's healed enough to stay together on its own. Eventually it wears off (in about 4 or 5 days). You can use super glue for something like this, but I'd say only in case of emergency. Just make sure you wash and dry the area very carefully. Do not put ointments or creams or lotions on the area after sealing it with super glue as it degrades the glue faster. If the glue holds, it's not necessary to put a bandage over the cut, unless you're using the bandage for a bit of cushioning.

Yeah not the smartest thing to do for a cut. If you want a product that will hold the cut closed w/o infecting it further you need to try "Liquid Bandage" instead of super glue. It's water-proof but will not hurt the wound like super glue.
Good luck! :)

Super glue is not designed for cuts. They have a product on the market called liquid bandage if you are interested in keeping some on hand. The best thing for a cut if it isn't deep enough to need stitches is to wash it with mild soap and water and apply an antibacterial cream on it and cover it with a bandaide.

Actually, it's fine as long as it's not too deep.
Super glue was originally developed FOR closing cuts.
Works great as long as the edges are lined up :-)

THey actually use superglue instead of sutures or staples in some surgeries today. I have had some people I know have joint replacement surgeries where they used superglue. It is OK to use as long as it does not get infected.

Probably even though it was actually used in the trenches during the 2nd world war. I think it's made with different stuff now and could be toxic. You ought to go to A&E to get checked over

You should have let the wound heal itself it would take longer but it would be much safer. I think the super glue made it worse.
