Because whenever people find out that a woman had sex with somebody....

There's always a gaggle of jealous guys calling her names.

Women are forced by society to hide any semblance of promiscuity for fear of being villified for it.

While, on the complete opposite side, men who are promiscuous are looked up to like heros.

It's a visciously unfair double standard.

Because women have all the risk of casual sex and men don't. women can get pregnant(there is no birth control that is 100%) and then they have to either give birth or have an abortion. There is the risk of STD's and thats a death sentence these days. There is the stigma that society places on women. Not to mention that in practice, two people share a moment and them move on, but in reality some people can't let go so women also risk being stalked as a result. Finally a woman who is thought to be promiscuous may find it hard to catch the attention of a guy she may really be interested in as he may feel that her feelings are just another manifestation of the lust she's projected. Obviously not all women feel this way.

Because some buy into the Puritan idea that women should not be sexual creatures until they are married, and they they are supposed to be everything to their husband. Madonna to whore in one day.

Puritan ideals are designed to make it wrong for women to be sexual creatures and have fun. If a man has many women he is a stud. If a woman has many men, she is a s**t and "unclean".

Why did the design it this way? Because many men are insecure little creatures that are afraid that their wife might have had someone better or "bigger" them then in the past. They want to play with the sluts and marry the virgin. Then when she doesn't become sexually as exciting as the "sluts" he dated because she is too uptight about sex because she has been told her whole life that its "dirty" and she is "dirty" if she does it and enjoys it he gets angry.

But, if he marries an inexperienced woman he doesn't have to fear that he isn't the best lover or the biggest penis she's ever had. It saves his ego from the fear that she may prefer some other man to him.

And women promote this same attitude as you can see from some of the answers here. Women calling women "whores" for liking sex and being equal to a man in promiscuity. Women throwing their own "sisters" under the bus by buying into this patriarchal, antiquated, irrational idea based on the fear of strong, smart, sexual women.

As Eric Jong once wrote: "The Virgin Mary is a sanitized version of the Mother Goddess - sanitized and fragmented. She is Woman devoid of her sexuality, Woman giving birth without human intercourse, Woman as unbroken hymen, the child-woman, the ideal of the "female eunuch" which Christianity has imposed upon on-half of the human species as the price of their very survival upon this earth... Christianity claims to honor the woman as mother but does not acknowledge her power to give life. Thus, woman is doomed to live in a double bind which is at once psychological and physical: she is damned for doing the very thing that keeps the race alive (sex). Man, for his part, is damned for partaking of that guilty sexuality, and doomed to wander the world turning virgins into whores, then cursing his fate in having no true mate to love."

I say, live as you want to live. If others can't accept that than they aren't true friends. If a man can't accept that, than he isn't the man for you.

Growing up as little girls we are taught to be wholesome and pure. And when most parents give their kids the " sex " talk , girls are told of purity and marriage and not being easy and a slut. Most boys, not all, but alot are told to use protection and watch out for psycho girls. I personally love casual protected sex between to responsible adults. It makes things much easier and each person gets their needs filled and nothing more. I am actually interested in talking to you more about this later. :O) But back to the question, this is from my own personal experience and what i have seen growing up. We train our girls one way and our boys another.

I think it's because our chemistry makes us tend to get feelings toward the people we sleep with, and therefore there's a lot more risk for us to get involved casually (plus pregnancy, STDs, our reputations, you name it). I've had great sex with someone I love and great sex with someone I like a whole lot. And I've got to say, while the sex was equally great, the feeling I had afterward was so much better with the guy I loved. Personally, I'd rather feel satisfied, loved and cherished than just satisfied.

Because American puritanical society still can't accept that women can want sex just for the fun of it. There are women who have figured out that, with the proper precautions, sex feels as good for them as it does for men. These women, if you seek it out, are usually more fun at parties. Happy New Year!

Because society is still showing a little bit of descency by looking down upon casual sex before marriage, but it will fade and eventually if you haven't had sex by the time you're 14, you will be ousted from society.

It's not in western societies. Now, in Africa, the middle and far east where women are still considered property, it's a whole other ballgame. I have friends both male and female who embibe and I don't think less of them. It's their business. Anyone touting that "they don't respect themselves if they do" is an idiot.

Because women have been conditioned to believe that they must be "in love" with someone to have sex with them. If they don't convince themselves that there is or will be a commitment, then they feel like a hussy.
