I didn't for a long time then this happened.
Several years ago I had an unusual experience concerning an uncle, a distant relative who lived over a thousand miles away.
While driving my car I suddenly felt the unmistakable presence of this relative that I hardly even knew. He was more like someone I had heard about than someone I knew. It was very strange; it felt as though I was momentarily lifted right out of my physical body. I seemed to be suspended somehow beyond space and time, bathed in a love so intense It felt like I could have just disappear into it at any moment if It would have let me. It only lasted for a few seconds, but it seemed to last forever at the same time. I realize how crazy this must sound. The experience was so strong that at first I was afraid I was loosing my grip on reality. I finally managed to chalk it up to an over active imagination.
Three days later I got a call from my aunt telling me that this uncle we are talking about had gone into a coma and died the day I had the experience. It felt like ice water had been poured down my back when she told me this. I had lost any real ideas of God or faith and had become somewhat of an atheist. Needless to say this experience caused me to rethink some of the conclusions I had come to.
I feel blessed to now understand that even in our darkest confusion something loves us so much that it went out of its way to assist me and bring me back to a state of absolute certainty about Gods love for us.
During the experience it seemed like there was a vast amount of information that I was somehow allowed access to. One thing that I came away from this experience understanding beyond any shadow of a doubt was that any Idea that God is unhappy with us or would judge or allow us to be punished for any reason is simply impossible.
I can’t explain the love I felt with words. They simply don’t make words big enough or complete enough to do this. The only way I can begin to convey this love to you is to say that there was simply nothing else there. Nothing but love. No hint of judgment, no displeasure of any sort. It is as though God sees us as being as perfect as we were the day we were created. It is only in our confused idea of ourselves that we seem to have changed.
I hope this is of some help to you. Good luck. Love and blessings.
Your brother don

No.
Despite such beliefs existing in nearly all cultures ever since there has been human civilization, there has never been a single piece of evidence to indicate that there is any such thing.
All such beliefs have a simple origin: the fear of death. People can't stand the fact that this life is all they've got, so they invent glorious afterlives in which they'll live in some kind of paradise (as opposed to the randomness and sometimes cruelty of this life). It gives them comfort to hold onto these myths -- but it's false comfort, since it's not real.
Buddhists believe you'll be reincarnated after you leave this life, and what you come back as depends on how good you were in this life. Egyptians believed they would be judged by the cares they brought with them after death, and if their cares (guilt, anguish, regret) weighed more than a feather, they would suffer punishment...if they didn't, they'd have a glorious eternal life after dying. Vikings believed that if they died in battle the Valkryes would take them to Valhalla, where their glorious battles would be celebrated forever.
The modern christians have their heaven, Islam has the 72 virgins, mormons get to become gods themselves...
The variety of the human imagination is stunning. But there's never been any evidence that any of it is real. Not ever. Believing in a fantasy to ameliorate your fear of death is a cop-out, in my opnion. I can deal with the fact that after I'm dead, there won't be anything...and it drives me to make the most of this one life I have. Those who believe in some kind of afterlife are, I guess, too weak to face up to reality, they'd rather wallow in fantasy. Sad.

Yes, I believe what the Bible teaches. John 11:25 Jesus says he that believes in me shall live even though he dies. To me that makes it clear I'm going to live after I die because I placed my faith and hope in Jesus Christ. Everyone else who wants this hope can also have it through faith in Jesus Christ. The Bible also teaches there is life after death for the people who do not trust in Jesus Christ, but their fate is not what I'd wish for anyone.
Besides Jesus who came back to life after being in the grave three days, there are a number of others we read about who were brought back to life or were alive such as the richman in hell and the poor man in Abraham"s bosom.

I believe that human consciousness survives death and returns to the cosmic consciousness but I don't believe in life after death as such because I don't think the ego or personality survives.

Yes - when you die, life goes on without you. Your death might even give life to another.

It's a nice thought but I haven't been able to find anything more than wishful thinking to support the concept.
How about you ?
