I've been obsessed with the idea of getting a tattoo around my left wrist for almost 2 years now. . . . the idea came from a line from my favorite song (also a song that's a tribute for my Grandmother who died in March) the line is about 14 words long and I don't want the writing to be too terribly big . . . nothing that can't be covered with a wide bracelet or cuff. I work at a bank, there is no real policy about body art, there are several other girls here w/ tattoos (ankle, shoulder blade etc) so I don't think that would be any problem. I also have a scar on my wrist that I would like to have covered up, or at least have something else on my wrist to draw the attention away from the scar. I have no tattoos at all, and I know everyone says "wait for a month, your whim will go away" I've been waiting, it hasn't gone away! I would like to know what everyone thinks about tattooing AROUND the wrist, not just outside or inside. Thanks in advance for your advice!

Just to clarify . . . I've had the scar for almost 5 years, it's not too bad, it's just really white and maybe 2 inches long (box cutter accident!). . . . I'm getting good answers . . . keep them coming! What about the pain in this area? Worse than most, better?

i think if you've wanted it for two years.. go to the tatoo parlor have them draw it out for you and put it on your wrist so you get an idea of what its going to look like and then make your final decision.. its your body dont let other people tell you what to do with it.. i think your probably old enough and mature enough to make these decisions on your own.. but for starters, if you must, take baby steps, go get it drawn out for you first. then make the big decision.. goodluck<3
ps.. its going to hurt no matter where you get it babe.. but your wrist, and spinal cord region will probably be the strongest areas of pain..

The outside of the wrist is all good. It doesn't hurt like you'd think. But the underside of the wrist I've heard hurts like a MF! A friend of mine had a wolf with trees put around her wrist and she said it was fine until they got to the underside and she started crying like a baby! This is because your nerves, veins, tendons are right there at the skin. Just remember what ever you decide and where you want to use Tattoo Goo on your newly done tattoo. It's all natural and helps heal faster. You can get it at your tattoo parlor.
Hope this helps and happy tattooing.
P.S. it sounds like a lovely tattoo

Two years is a long time to think about it....
Do you have a place you've been thinking about going to? If so go to them and give them the words pick out a type of script or writing and have them draw it out for you and temporally put it on you. oorrrrr I know this may seem stupid go get a temporary tattoo you know the one that kids get and put it on you wrist to see how well you can hide it or deal with it.
Second please consider tattoo over scars can be pain full more pain full than the tattoo itself... I am not trying to push you away from getting it I have 7. But none of mine are visible.... You know you don't want to feel like you have to cover it up...

There are a few things to consider. When writing words in ink they should be large enough so that over 20 years or so the ink does not blend together. (which it will) I don't think your wrist is going to be big enough to write the whole thing on.Your tattoos change over time just as our bodies do. Another thing to think about is future jobs. Unless you are going to work at this job and in the same position forever consider what future employment will be. I don't know if your married or not but will you want it to show in your wedding dress? 14 words is a lot for a tattoo. Is there a reason you want it on your left wrist as opposed to another body part? I don't believe that written words are good for tattoos because they tend to not be distinct. Could you think of a symbolic thing to represent the words or meaning of the song instead of the actual words? -just a suggestion

While the lettering will first appear crisp and easily readable, over time, and with fluctuations in weight, etc., fine-line tattoos often have a tendency to become "fuzzy" as the ink migrates into surrounding tissues. With trying to squeeze 14 words into that limited an area, it's quite possible that you will eventually end up with a muddy, unreadable mess.
You might also want to consider that, while your present employer may have no problem with visible tattoos, it may be a problem for future employers.
The final consideration, if you're concerned about the reaction of others (as you obviously are considering your concern over the appearance of the scar), while the words have a deep sentimental meaning to you, many will see it as just silly.
All in all, doesn't seem to me to be a really good idea.

it wouldn't be a problem to cover the scar BUT 14 words is a lot to go around your wrist. unless you are willing to make it two lines. it would have to be kindof big to be able to make the words legible and to hold up over time. good luck in whatever you decide to do.

You've been waiting for 2 years go for it.
Go to a tattoo parlour and show him what you want done and he/she will do it.
Make sure the tattoo artist is clean, sterile, and that he throws aways his needles after every person.

I tattoo'd my wrist about a year ago and I loved it so much I tattoo'd the other one a few months later. Since then I've just added to one of them and got way more tattoos. It's so addicting. Have fun!

Great idea, it means something to you.
It also sounds beautiful!
It might hurt a little more in that area but, it will be worth it!

From a health stand point tattooing put dangerous heavy metals into your system. They are in style NOW , what about when the trends goes away. Why don't you post the question... How many people regret their tattoo, and ask how many people have had them removed or wish they could.
