And if so, can you give me a reason not to open up the wallet a bit on one?

And yes, it obviously is not the main reason for buying the ring...

It really isn't an investment as it is the first installment of a lifelong payment you have for getting married.

Well, taking into consideration what this ring stands for, it is more than just a monetary investment, don't you think??
It's an emotional investment as well.
But, to answer your question directly, I definitely think it is a monetary investment. As far as spending a little bit more on a ring, I would say go for it. Although make sure you are spending it on quality, not just on extra karats. A woman who truly knows her jewelry will pay attention to the clarity of the diamond, not just the size. Bailey Banks and Biddle is a fantastic jewelry store with very unique engagement rings.
Pay attention to how "see thru" the diamond is. If it is cloudy, or a little grey-ish move on to the next one! Also, ask where the diamond comes from, do not get a De Beers diamond, although they claim they come from "conflict free" zones, they do NOT. Many people have died for their diamonds. If your lady is at all into human justice, or even kind hearted in the least, she will truly appreciate that you bought a diamond that was not already paid for with the life of a six year old child.
Try to buy a diamond from Austria, Australia, or even Canada.

So, yes, make the investment, it will be worth it.
Sorry I got a little off topic, but good luck with the ring shopping and the engagement! :)

Not a monetary investment, per se, because you aren't planning on selling it later at a profit. At least I hope not.

It is an investment that might need to be insured if it would ever be stolen, lost or damaged and would need replacement.

Don't go into huge debt to buy a flashy expensive ring just to impress everyone. Get something that has meaning for her and for you.

If you have thought this all the way through and you sincerely plan to be with her forever and don't see her running off and keeping the ring, by all means, get the very best you can afford. It is an emotional and monetary investment! It sends her a message as well...

Jewelry depreciates quicker than cars so no, I don't consider it a monetary investment. It is really a sentimental piece you and your wife and possibly children (if an heirloom) will appreciate. Even still, from a woman's viewpoint, get your lady something as beautiful as she is. Consider is just as a gift for her and not an investment. Isn't she worth it? Good luck!!

An engagement ring was once considered a dowry. A status symol to show that you can afford to support this woman. That why if you break up before your wedding legally she must retutrn the ring.

Open your wallet as much as you can afford 2-3 moths pay.

I don't think its a monetary investment. You aren't likely to increase its value over time. That said, I still can't think of one reason why you shouldn't go all out and open your wallet a bit for one.

Yes, it is an investment. Diamonds never ever decrease in value. Make sure it is a good quality diamond. The clarity and cut matter. Open your wallet good and wide sweetie and best wishes to you and your future wife.

An engagement ring is nothing more than the first payment on a lay-away plan. You are buying your right to secure sex at a later date! It is a way of letting others know that she is reserved for you. What you pay for it depends on how good the vulva and vagina is!

no, buying jewelery at a retail store is not a good investment, the markups are over 100%, also the big diamond companies(debeers), set the prices
