my boy friend's dog could possibly get him and his family evicted. The lanlord/lease refers to it as an "unautorized pet".
He wants to avoid this by having me adopt it for 2-3 months OR putting it in a shelter OR having it put to sleep.
i have a back yard. But I need my parents permission to keep the dog.

If it's unauthorized, this means it's not allowed where he lives or he hasn't paid the pet deposit. Talk to your parents and see if you can take him, but if you and your boyfriend break up, what would happen to the dog??
He may be best off finding a permanent home for the pet. Do not take it to the shelter or put it to sleep. If he is a responsible person, he will be able to find a suitable home for his dog.

I would have him see if he has some one in his family that would take care of it first, because what if you break up before he can get it back (not that I'm saying you wont give it back or anything it will just be difficult, unless you stay good friends). If he doesnt have anyone else and you are willing to take full responsibllity of it while in your care, then talk to your parents about it. Also do you already own dogs or other animals that this new dog could fight with? Becareful when taking care of other peoples animals. We had a person who left his pit bull puppy with his friends (who had 3 dogs Great Danes and other big dogs who constantly attacked each other and has to be brought in for dog fight wounds all of the time) and one of the Great Danes attacked the puppy and bit his head. It completely crushed his skull and we had to call the owner and ask him what he wanted to do. We ended up putting the 4 month old puppy to sleep because the puppy sitters left it alone with dogs they knew were aggressive while the big dogs were eating. So just be careful if you do take the dog. I hope it works out for you and your boyfriend. Good luck

First decide if you even want the dog in your home. If not just tell him your parents won't allow pets because their homeowner's insurance doesn't allow it. Second, how long have you known this guy? Will he dump you and leave you with the pet? Third, how long has he had the dog? Long enough to be attached? He could always ask friends, neighbors, relatives , co-workers if they are interested in adopting a dog that is already potty trained and has all his shots. Provided this is true. Putting a dog to sleep because he can't live with you is very selfish.

Seems like the answer is obvious. IF you want to care for it for 2 or 3 months, ask your parents permission. If not, your boyfriend needs to find a solution - he can advertise for someone to give it a new home, or take it to a shelter. If you care for it for 2 or 3 months, what happens then. Does it become "aurthorized" and okay for your boyfriend to keep it at home?

DUH Just ask the folks if you can keep his dog temporarily and make sure he comes to your house to check on him and help with any other needs your house may need to have to maintain a dog.

talk to your parents or take it to the shelter (a nonkill), but PLEASE don't put it to sleep. I'm sure there is SOMEONE out there who has room for it and it won't be an authorized pet.
