Chevron....it's the arrow pointy symbols that classify enlisted ranks. They point down in the Navy and Air Force, and point up in the Army and Marines. In the Navy and Air Force...the rocker is on the top above the Chevrons (it is only given once you make Chief Petty Officer or Master Sergeant, E-7). In the other branches, they are below the Chevrons (the first one is awarded upon making Staff Sergeant E-6.)

It's called a chevron. Most army personnel have this rank. If it's only one, it's a Private, if it's 2 chevrons, the rank is corporal. If it's 3 chevrons, the rank is Sgt...and so on.
