Jehovah is the name of God in some versions of the Bible. To be a witness to Jehovah means that they follow his teachings, or their religion's interpretations of his teachings and work to spread the word of his teachings to others.
Basically they use the word witness to mean, "to bear witness to; testify to; give or afford evidence of."

In 1931 they adopted the name and in the Bible at Isaiah 43:10-12, God says "you are my witnesses" and thus because God's name is Jehovah they adopted the scriptural name, Jehovah's Witnesses. They witness for Jehovah (knock-knock)

They believe that using God's name is important, hence the use of Jehovah. They believe that by spreading their version of the gospel that they are being "witnesses". There is a verse from the Bible that says something like 'you will be my witnesses to all the nations.' - ie you will spread the message to people of all different nationalities and countries.
Jehovah's Witness believe that the end of the world was heralded in 1914 and that the end will finally come when everyone who was alive in 1914 will be dead - so not long now!

We just adopted that name. We use to be called "Bible Students". Isaiah 43:10 says "You will be witnesses of me..." hence, we are witnesses of God. God's personal name is found at Psalms 83:18 "Jehovah". Hence, we are called Jehovah's Witnesses. We witness what God has done for us and will do for us...Jesus was the greatest faithful witness of God.

Jehovah's Witnesses both witness personally and bear witness to others regarding God's personal name, his majestic personality, and Kingdom purposes. In doing so, they align themselves with Jesus Christ and the prophets.
(Isaiah 43:10) “You are my witnesses,” is the utterance of Jehovah
(Isaiah 43:12) So you are my witnesses,” is the utterance of Jehovah, “and I am God.
(Hebrews 12:1-2) Because we have so great a cloud of [Jehovah's] witnesses surrounding us, let us also put off every weight and the sin that easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, as we look intently at the Chief Agent and Perfecter of our faith, Jesus
(Revelation 1:5) Jesus Christ, “the Faithful Witness”
(Acts 5:38,39) Do not meddle with these men, but let them alone; (because, if this scheme or this work is from men, it will be overthrown; but if it is from God, YOU will not be able to overthrow them;) otherwise, You may perhaps be found fighters actually against God.”

Jehovah is just another name for God, Jehovah's witnesses is just another man made thing that trys to control people with it's rules, they take a lot of money from their followers, with false promises, they just quote the bits they want in their way, they also try and force there views on people, they are a pest keep coming round banging on your door telling your beliefs are wrong, and still come back even when told to clear off, so there you are Jehovah witnessed nothing, another than cons using his name

Another Yahoo! Answers user named Jackie has asked a similar question. The answer is that Jehovah did not witness anything; "Jehovah's Witnesses" is a meaningful, Bible-based name that applies to God's people. Its based on Isaiah 43:10.
It has a legal ramification ....like a witness in a court room bearing witness of what he knows.
