yes you can put in a regular one, but it will NOT fix the leak at all, and most likely you will end up with a house fire from the leak going into the new light..I would put in a new fan unit an have the leak fixed properly by a roofer..
good luck

Well, first off, changing the fixture in your bathroom won't solve the leak problem. You have to go in the attic to see where the water is coming from and fix the part of the roof that is leaking first. If the water is coming in through the fan, you *may* have a problem with the ball or flap that is supposed to keep water or air from backflowing. Check that out too.
And yes, you can change the fixture. If there is a large fixture in there now, you will need to remove it and end the wires in a junction box affixed to a stud or joist. Then you will need to patch the ceiling to close up the hole. Call a general craftsman to do the work. I wouldn't do it yourself unless you know what you are doing.

You can change the light fixture, but it's not going to stop the leak. It sounds to me like you need to get a new roof or have it repaired.

The fan and light are not responsible for water leaking. The leak is above them. You need to check your roof for leaks. You might start where a vent pipe or something else is going thru the roof close to this area.

i am in agreement with everyone else.
this leak could cause your wiring to short out and cause an electrical fire. get this repaired as quickly as you can. then you may want to leave the ceiling fan in place, and this helps dissipate the moisture in the bathroom, which is always a good thing.

It will not repait the leak, and you should probably repair the leack before any you get any electrical damage from the water. Electricity and water do not play well together...
