I'm 21, female, I weigh 210 and I'm 5'4". I have some muscle mass under my fat, so I'm not sure how much overweight I actually am. Does anyone know any diets and exercises that will get me to my goal by May??

If you make a few life style changes you should be able to lose quite a bit of the weight within the time frame you have set for yourself. However, that would be almost 20 pounds a month to lose all of it, so that might be a bit much. This is a system that has worked well for me and several friends have also been successful with it.

1. Eat three nutritious meals and three snacks everyday. Cut out junk food. You probably need about 1500 to 1800 calories a day. Many people make the mistake of not eating enough when they try to lose weight and then become discouraged.

2. Drink lots of water - at least 8 big glasses as day. Lots of water is essential. Stop drinking soda and other drinks with useless calories. Eat fresh fruit instead of fruit juices - the juices are very high in calories.

3. Begin a simple weight lifting program at home or at a gym. Ordinary household items (tins of soup, for example) can actually serve as weights for beginners. Buy yourself a good weight lifting book for women. Actually the "dummies" series of books has done a rather good one.

4. Walk, walk, walk. Buy yourself a pedometer and aim for 10,000 steps a day.

5. Record everything you eat and all your exercise to make sure you have a "calorie deficit". Two of the sites I've included will help you do that. Basically buring more calories than you take in leads to weight loss. You need a deficit of 3500 calories to lose one pound.

6. If you drive, do less of it and park at the back of the parking lot instead of close to the door. Always use stairs - never the elevator or escalator.

7. A mini stepper is an easy piece to equipment to have at home and gives great results. I bought mine at a second hand store for $4. even if you use it for a minute or two several times a day it can make a big difference.

I hope these thoughts help. You can do this. Good luck with it.

I have one possible answer. Look into something called Body for Life. This is a really neat program that is all about improving your body in multiple 12 week programs. In order to be healthy you really shouldn't try to lose more than 2 lbs per week after your intial week in a new life style (diet). The body for life program is all about eating more healthy so your body can help you in your weight loss along with excercising almost every day for less than 45 minutes. The nice thing is you get one day off of the diet every week so you don't feel the need to cheat all of the time. Good luck you may not be able to achieve the first goal but I am sure if you can do the first 12 week program you will feel so good about yourself you will keep doing it until you have been transformed into a whole new you.

I lost 60 lbs in 4-5 mos, by powerwalking 3miles every other day, and doing 6 min of good crunches along with a workout video for trouble spots, ie buns of steel...(i know showing my age lol) abs of steel ( whatever dvd for abs u get make it for men its a much better workout) I also cut salt, and pop out of my diet, broiled, or grilled any meat and mostly ate chicken breast. Iexcept for that i didnt really change my diet too much, and cut my portions in half. And make sure u eat 4-5 small meals a day, helps ur metabolism dont starve ur self or just eat once a day not good.
Also the discovery channel is about to kick off its National Body Challenge, great to keep up the motivation! u also get a free membership to Bally's, and u can invite others to join ur group, or join a group.
Remember to drink lotsa water! and GOOD LUCK! I wish u well! You can do it!.

First, cut down your sugar input immediately. Try cutting 50% the first month. When your body is used to that sugar level, cut down another 25%.

You must read what you eat. Losing weight does not mean stop eating or eat a lot less, you eat the same amount of food (healthy food) but split into 5-6 times a day.

Also cut down salt because it holds water in your body. ABSOLUTELY NO JUNK FOOD!

When you are set with you eating order, start your exercises, jogging and running are the best. You can join gym to tone down your shape. This will guarantee you 25-30 lbs loss before May.

Do not go extreme since it'll damage your body.

A normal 5'4" ectomorph should weight 125-130 lbs.

Try weight training; sign up at a gym where someone will work with you to make sure you're doing it right. Go for walks instead of eating whenever you're hungry between meals.

Eat pretty much the same thing every day to keep it uninteresting to your taste buds. Eat three meals and two or three snacks. Drink lots and lots of water. Avoid sodas (even diet) and alcohol. Limit fruit juices because they are high in calories but low in fiber.

Don't limit your calories too much. If you do, your body will think there is a famine going on and it will reset your metabolism even slower than it is. I know about this, to my sorrow.

Have 1 cup plain non-fat yogurt, 1 piece fresh fruit and 1 piece dry whole wheat toast for breakfast.

Lots of green salad for lunch and snacks. There are lots of ready made undressed salads available at the grocery store. Also, shred cabbage and have cabbage salad instead of lettuce for both taste and nutritional variety.

Use one cup of non-fat yogurt and your favorite dry herbs to make a creamy dressing for the day's salads.

For dinner, steamed fish with lemon, or baked skinless chicken, 1/2 to 1 cup cooked whole grains (rice, barley, millet, etc.) or sweet potato or winter squash, and more salad or steamed vegetables without butter or oil. Have 1 piece of fruit for dessert.

Have air popped popcorn without salt or oil (try garlic powder or curry powder or other seasoning) for when you want a snack and you just can't take another bite of salad.

Keep a food and activity diary.

And keep remembering exactly why you want to lose the weight.

Good luck reaching your goal!

You've set the bar quite high! I applaud your commitment.

The best thing to do is to eat right, and work out. Get a standardized workout plan. Don't stray from it.

As a general guideline, you need to use more calories than you take in, that is the secret to losing weight, I believe it's something like 700 calories per pound that you hafto use. Don't try to lose it all at once. Don't crashdiet. Work hard, there ARE NO MIRACLES.

No pain, no gain.

First of all you have to want it. You have to be willing to make the sacrifice of your time-and sometimes your comfort-in order to acheive your goal. Figure out a fitness plan that is going to fit into your lifestyle. Then find a buddy who is willing to work out with you, and is nice. Studies show that you are more motivated by people who encourage you rather than make you feel bad. Start slow if you have to when you're doing your workouts, and make changes to your diet one small step at a time-that way you don't feel overwhelmed. Good luck!

I think Weight Watcher has worked well for a lot of people. I don't know if you will get the results you want in such a short period of time. I think a good way to do it is to set smaller goals, maybe 10lb incraments, until you reach the 75lb, mark.

try atkins. You can buy the book for like a dollar on amazon.com or you can look up the diet on the internet. It's really simple and very easy to do. I'm 25 and want to lose the same amount. If you want a buddy..feel free to e-mail me at skybelle18@aol.com and I can give you more info about the diet. Good luck either way! Erica

That is a lofty aspiration for which you will need help. Hire a trainer / dietician and get proper advice. You will certainly need a change of lifestyle as opposed to a diet.
