There's no contradiction. The concept is rather simple. The danger is in those who claim to 'know' or 'understand' God more completely than others, for they are truly idolatrous.

Humans are finite creations with limited perception. God is infinite and beyond all understanding. We, in our limited capacity, cannot even begin to conceive of limitlessness of God. What we can do is recognized that He is beyond our capacity to understand and strive to learn what we can from that which He provided us.

I think you're reasoning is flawed. What human being ever completely understood God? That would mean all the prophets of old, (because most of them didn't even know that God had a Son or understand His plan for salvation) and all the apostles would be guilty of worshipping a false God if your calculations were true. Christianity is a simple thing. We shouldn't try to confuse it.

True......It's our obligation to know God and understand Him
The commandment was to emphasize the need to protect pure worship because the nation around them were worshiping many false gods. And the true God exacts exclusive devotion Exodus 20:5
Our future depends on knowing God John 17:3 So knowledge of God and of His purpose should be a subject that takes first priority in you life.

You can know the One True God - Jehovah, the Great I AM and you can have a personal relationship with Him as well as His Son Jesus Christ - the Savior of the world. Not religion - but a real, thriving, alive relationship with God the Father and Jesus. Then you can keep the first commandment without fail. When you are saved, your spiritual eyes will be opened to the Truth - Jesus Christ - that He is who He says He is, that he died on a cross, was buried, and rose again (resurrected) on the third day according to the Scriptures - old and new testament. God is real - just like you and me - I pray you find the Truth - Jesus Christ and the Father God, Jehovah. They are waiting for you. Blessings dear one.

What I cant figure out is, if God is the only god, then why does he feel it necessary to warn us against worship other Gods?? I mean, if he is the only God, whats he so afraid of??? And if the Ten Commandments are the only source of morals, why do the first four of them have absolutely nothing to do with morals and instead only have to do not worshipping other Gods, graven images or working on Saturdays??

All of the comandments are broken by most people....because we are sinful . Jews are so upset about not having the temple...because without it they have no place to perform sacrifices. Christians feel safe because they have Jesus for salvation. If you read through the comandments you realize how many of them you break and feel guilty... this causes believers to repent and ask for forgiveness. Which is ultimately what G-D wants from us. Sometimes... the bible makes more sense to some people when it is read in Hebrew. If you feel that you don't understand it...try learning Hebrew! :)

There is only one God Papa.

The first commandment is an impossibility.

Only a foolishly proud person would assume they completely understood God.

God is beyond conception - a false god would be your conceptions and images your create.

God is beyond understanding (in an intellectual way). That is why some say you can never know God. But that is what God is - so that is not false.

False gods are the ones we create - be it even our image of God.

I worship God the best way that I can, in spirit and in truth. Your right in that I cant know all there is about God. But I believe that my spirit can. I have been filled with the word of God, Jesus Christ. He prays for me, when I don't have the words. He stands for me when I can't get up to even walk. And when I get filled with a "religion" he takes me back when I crawl to Him.

Someday, in heaven, I may fully understand who God is, right now all I have is my walk and my willing heart that wants to learn and to worship and to grow.

Well it depends if you dont believe in god then the ten commandmants are null and void.If you do believe in god then you are not necessarily worshipping a false god as long as you worship god, he is pleased.
