Then, about two months ago, i was watching Crossfire. The topic was If Islam means peace, and the guests were Jerry Falwell (yes, i thought it was a humorous choice too) and an Islamic community organization representative (I dont remember his name or what organization he was from). Jerry Falwell was arguing, rather clumsily, that Islam is not tolerant. He provided an example of the fact that he isn't allowed to pass out bibles or preach the gospel in Saudia Arabia . The Islamic community leader, who appeared to be a Western convert with an American accent, rebutted Falwell by providing inflated percentages of the numbers of Christians in several Islamic countries, as if numbers had anything to do with how these minorities are treated in these countries. I was deeply disturbed by this. What power does Islam have that even someone from the West, with Western sensibilities, would deliberately mislead the public about suffering that goes on in these countries? If Islam truly means p

peace and tolerance, why is he not speaking out against the crimes that are committed against people in Islamic countries in the name of Islam? And more horrifying, what motivation would he have to protect the image of Islam, even if it meant getting up on national TV and looking the other way while his fellow Muslim suffers?
I resumed my search, and this time, I typed in something similar to "against Islam" in the google seach on the internet. I don't know why it didn't occur to me to try "against Islam" a long tme ago. Finally, a site which offered the intelligent commentary I was looking for. I realized how cowardly i had been to keep my views to myself, when others literally risk their necks speaking against Islam. This site helps me to develop an thorough understanding of Islam and the issues, so that when i speak about Islam, I can properly separate my views against the religion of Islam from Muslim people.

When you know you're not in the right, you have to inflate numbers and fib on statistics.
I commend you for your courage. I used to think that it was just a few extremists that hated us westerners as they tell us it is but then I read in their own Koran that one of their goals is to kill and iniliate all infindels. It spoke of torturous techniques they were to do to us. How can they claim to be a religion of love and tolerance when their own bible, so to speak, tells them to hate and even kill everyone who isn't part of their religion?

What public suffering of Christians? Have you ever been to a Muslim country? I agree that sometimes small minded idiots hurt other because of their religion. Yet the same stuff is dished out to the Muslims of that country also.
The point I think was about Islam being tolerent or that it wasn't spread by the sword., If Islam wasn't tolerent of others, these people of other faiths would not have been in these muslim countries or they would have been forced to convert.
For example 12% of Bangledesh is Hindu, 10% of Indonesia is Christian, 5% of Jordan is Christian, 27% of Lebanon is Christian, 33% of Albania are Christian, Malaysia has 17% bhuddists, 7%hinduism, 6% Christianity, In Oman 13% are Hindu and In Egypt 6% are Christians. (All figures taken from Philips Encylopedia 1997)
These are millions of people, we "intollerable" Muslims forgot to convert/ kill. Yet many still live there and have lived their for generations, at some point if things were as bad as you say they would have escaped, like the Jews and Germany I'm thinking.

What are you going on about. People are people in any religion. Religion is not necessarily about peace, we've seen this constantly through the ages.
Why don't people stop going on about religion as if they feel let down by it. It works for some people but not others. It is not the moral high ground any more. Ever seen much religious activity around climate change, sexism, racism or gay and lesbian rights? Do they actually care about the planet or it's inhabitants? I don't think so. This is for all religions. You'd be foolish to think that modern Christianity would replace Islam in the Middle East for example and vice versa. Too much time spent thinking about difference. What about unity and not the same old record of hating other people for whatever reason beit religion, colour, class or gender. Peace

Nobody on this earth has any right to tell others what to do. The solution would be if we all got on with our own lives without interfering in other people's lives. On a voluntary basis we could be permitted to find a way of helping others who are in need - health-wise, education and training wise, food and clothing-wise and work-wise. Unfortunately all that is pie in the sky whilst we have the super rich managing politics and politics cow towing to the super rich and all that complicated by religious organisations who think they know better than anyone else.

thats the fact its human nature not religion.
the dominant factor is the nature of group of person controlling the area. they may be of different /same religion.
ISLAM is religion that makes us (muslims) compulsory to well behave with every one. (without any discrimination, person of any religion even it is your neighbour.)
As far as Jerry's remarks is concerned i have a different point of view on that.
No person (of any religion) should preach for their religion. Islam is an open book of facts. if someone reads it seriously then he will understand its importance. mind that there is not written in it that make the world hell. it has a very peacefull message and thats it.

Get over yourself. You should be deeply disturbed by the fact that here in America we are breeding little hate mongers the likes of Falwell by DELIBERATELY MISLEADING THEM with Christianity as well.
Trading one evil for another is hardly the right response to a war on religion - not on terror, not on evil, but on RELIGION.

I have to say that the people who do the most oppressing always seem to claim that they themselves are the most oppressed. This applies to the French people in Quebec, the Nazis, the Taliban, the Israelis and countless others.
