I have been anaemic for several months now. My GP is only giving me iron supplements which don't seem to help at all. I feel dizzy and tired most of the time, I get pale and sweaty whenever I make the slightest effort and throw up when I'm training or playing sports.
I am a very active fit person and I eat the healthiest diet I can think of
Any suggestions? I have increased the amount of greens, nuts, liver and everything else apart from Guiness.

Stop drinking Vitamin D milk. Don't take Antacids! Avoid Calcium Carbonate at all costs. Your GP is an idiot; find another one that is not. You need to work on your nutrition and the GP has no clue what to tell you. You are most likely mineral and vitamin deficient. I suggest you look into Grass Fed Beef (should eat this everyday), whey protein (avoid soy protein like the plague), a mixture of greens, and quality EFA's (essential fatty acids). This should make you feel better, but then you need to work on your diet. Eliminate SOY (terrible for you), Canola (Rape weed) and increase your consumption of grape juice and fresh fruit, especially grapefruit.

Beetroot juice is very good for increasing iron in your blood. It has a lot of iron in itself. Another thing you can do is mix apple, carrot and beatroot, make juice out of it and add sugar or honey of you wish. This all should start improving your blood in a month. Still, it is my opinion you should try to make a small break in your workout habits. You need to give some time to your body to recover. Anyways, beatroot is very healthy, so I presume, it fits with your eating habits. Beatroot salad is very very tasty. I hope this will help you. If you have any additional questions feel free to ask. But you need to try to rest a bit. If you are working too much, and plus workout, and don't sleep enough, there is your answer how it all started. All of these suggestions have been used in Bosnia and Herzegovina for ages and they worked so far.

You are having other problems besides just anemia and need to go back to the doctor. The throwing up, dizziness and being sweaty etc. indicate that other problems might be going on so see your doc and get this checked out. Also if the iron supplements have not raised you blood levels enough then you may need a transfusion. You do need to go back to the doc though and find out what is going on.

You should speak again to your Doc and/or go see another (second opinion). Dizzy , tired, vomiting, etc..not normal at your age (?). Is low iron/anaemia the correct diagnosis? Pregnant? Maybe a nutritionalist may help - possibly you're eating good stuff, but missing out (lacking) on real food.

If your dietary intake of iron is adequate, then there must be another reason. Either you're bleeding (most common cause in young women is heavy menstrual bleeding) or else your bone marrow isn't making red blood cells. Causes of bone marrow suppression are rare, but include cancers (leukemia) or idiopathic (caused by certain drugs).

Again, if the iron supplements aren't helping, you need to get further evaluation.

If you continue to have problems with low iron, you should have further testing done to ensure nothing is wrong.
Eat citric fruits while taking iron supplements. Vit C makes iron absorb. Try to eat oranges and drink orange juice to help with the absorbtion.

I went through the same thing, try drinking your supplements at night, with a glass of orange juice, if this doesn't help, you must go back to your doctor and let him know what's going on.

i think you will feel like you have no energy. i think iron is a very important nutrient that we need for some energy, theres iron in blood so thats why when girls are in their "time of the month" they feel tired --they loose a lot of iron. i think it can affect your baby. look online or talk to your doctor about what foods are high in iron, so you and your baby will have energy and be healthy take care :)

I had that problem a couple of times and the doctor gave me prescription straight iron pills and took them three times a day. Ask your GP about those.

Take an Iron supplement. I use to take them when I was little and the anemia went away. Good luck
