Don't you think it's like the wall of Berlin? instead of going forward aren't we going backwards?

Hmm... I hadn't heard of that one... but nor have I been able to watch the news in months... lol

I believe SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. I don't care if it becomes a physical wall, or if it means there should be people on duty at all times 24/7/366 to watch the border. Even people from other countries (other than mexicans) are using this border to gain access into our country. (I know you heard about the chinese dudes and their tunnel - luckily they got caught though.)

The wall in berlin was built because one country (and even the city) could not agree, therefore the wall was built. I suppose the american version would be like North/south carolina/dakota, or west virginia and virginia. No physical walls but a state line, and was just a dispute as to what to do. Now if the mexicans (The prez all the way down to the illegals in our country) could understand our problem, and actually DO SOMETHING about it themselves, there may be no need for a physical wall, OR a wall of gunned men.

I understand this is the land of the free, and mexico is not. I understand that they could have a better life over here, which is not offered in mexico. But slowly, decade by decade, this problem is getting much worse. Jobs which us americans NEED are being taken by mexicans. So a lot of those unemployed americans are stuck relying upon the government. If you've ever been into a social services office, you also know how many of those people relying upon the government are NOT americans. Employers are gladly handing them to mexicans because they work cheaper. INS really isn't doing much to prevent this issue either. Most employers and/or INS seem to turn a blind eye to it, and let it slide. Where I live, I see busses everyday, with spanish all over it, and we all know what that means.

I sware to you, I AM NOT racist!!! I have been friends with many spanish-americans/mexicans, and any other race. I hold no personal grudges against any race of people. I just feel, for our country's sake and my children's, this problem is becoming out of hand.

With our advances in technology, it wouldn't matter if a wall was built. People will think of other ways into our country. There have been cases where underground tunnels have been built for the purpose of sneaking into our country. Also, it would be nothing like the Berlin wall. The purpose of the Berlin wall was completely different.

It will be more like the Great Wall of China or Hammurabi's wall. Both proved completely ineffective at keeping people out. The fact is that a fence will be aseffective as the number of officers available to patrol it. If we had a sufficient nuber of boarder agents to patrol a fence effectively then we wouldn't need it in the first place.

The fence is simply a political ploy to fool people into believeing that our government is doing something about the problem. The sad thing is a lot of people are actually going for the ploy.

I agree with them putting it up though I doubt it's effective ability because holes will likely be cut in it. I don't consider it like the Berlin wall because that partitioned parts of one country where as this separates 2 different countries . I think all immigrants can learn to follow the law and not just the Mexican people of which I have no quarrel with , I just feel they should put forth the effort to live here legally so our money stays in this country and is spent here so they can contribute to our society if they wish to live here. I don't feel that is so wrong but it's just one opinion among many.

Look, its pretty simple. There is a Legal and shall I say "nice" way to immigrate. Now, when people don`t follow "Da Rules" new and probably more extreme measures will have to be taken. In this case, build a wall/fence throughout the Mexico-US border.
If Immigrants followed the rules of Legal Immigration, this wall wouldn`t exist.

Is this wall/fence good or bad? Its neither. If this is the way to control illegal Immigration, so be it.

No. Is stupid to think we're just going to sit and see how many illegals cross our borders. What do you suggest we do? Welcome them with open arms and not hold Mexico accountable? The Berlin wall was made of communists who wanted people inside. Our wall (if is ever built) will keep people out and help crack down on illegal drugs. Many druglords transport drugs here by the borders and I think you need to rethink your decisions becuase this makes you sound like a pro-illegal sympathizer.

Yes, a wall is going backward, but remember, the Berlin wall was knocked down!

BTW, you would need a wall all around the USA to keep ALL undocumented immigrants out.

...unfortunately... I agree the wall is a poor attempt at a valid problem...
Personally I regret the necessity of controling access to our country by anyone... but... something must be done given our current situation...
We have people coming to this country not as an opportunity for employment... but an opportunity to take advantage of our social system... they haven't earned that right... nor are we responsible for the entire world... unless the world actually tries to take care of itself for a change... A better 'great wall' idea would be NO PUBLIC ASSISTANCE OF ANY KIND unless you are legally in the US... at LEAST legally registered... preferrably must be a citizen... then people willing to work for the mythical 'low wages' wouldn't be getting subsidized just because the AREN'T citzens...

1. No, this is to keep people OUT who are breaking our law by coming IN.

2. Even the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo expressly allows for it.

3. It isn't a wall.

4. I'll throw a party if it actually goes up. I see no reason to rush printing invitations, at the rate it is going and based on current 'renege on all deals to voters' talk in the Senate.

It all seems a little fishie to me. First Bush wanted the illegal Mexicans to be able to vote when he was worried about the pres., race. And now he says keep them out. If you have ever lived in Texas you would see the problem. I've lived there and yeah....... something needs to be done, but... a wall? I don't know if there is a solution to this problem without, doing something. I mean, they cross the rivers to get here.
