My new kitten is just about 12 weeks old, i got her yesterday & before i took her home the owner told me she had a slight case of ringworm >_< (Jerk) I couldn't not bring it home. I haver her in my room now, he often hides in his kitty carrier, i'v been treating her ringworm with an antibacterial & antifungus spray for cats. I constantly use handsanitizer & wash my hands, & my father is going to buy antibacterial spary for me to clean my whole room. He eats well, plays, purrs & is happy? I want to know more about the ringworm... He also has a pus eye, the eye is only slighly cloudy i guess from the infection & the pus is a light green coloration. What can i do to cure or relieve this until he gets vet attention? & also how do i prevent myself from getting ringworm?

Warm wash cloth will help draw out the infection in the eye. He does need antibiotics from the vet.

Do be careful ringworm is highly contagious. It is much easier to heal the lessons in mutts than purebreds. Check its progress with a black light. It will glow. (??) Don't know why but it usually does.

The vet will help you on the eye infection. You could just make sure you wipe the pus away with a clean, damp tissue.

I contracted ringworm from working at a humane society. Its highly contagious. My problem was that I did not know the kittens had it, so I didnt take proper precautions.

You are doing good by washing with an antibacterial soap after handling the kitten. That is the best way, wash and keep dry.
I had breakouts on my forearms, and upper thigh and foot were it had spread, by the time I went to the doctor the circles were 2 inches in diameter. I thought it was a spider bite or poison ivy.

If you start noticing crater like circles, by some over-the counter anti-fungal cream. Keep areas dry and uncovered.

Ringworm is a fungus that is in the same family as Athlete's Foot. It's very contagious, but is easily treated with anti-fungal creams. The creams work better because they can be rubbed in, and there is no noise to scare your kitty. Clorox Cleanups will kill the fungus on surfaces because there isn't anything for the fungus to burrow into. Just wash your hands after you have handled him and you shouldn't have any trouble. If you do contract the fungus, just get some Lamisil AT and use it. If your kitty's fungal infection is deep seated, your vet may put him on a liquid medicine to fight the fungus in the blood stream. Don't use Lamisil on your kitty, it can burn his skin, but you can purchase over the county kitty ringworm meds for this at your vet supply shop or pet shop.

Until you can get your baby to the vet, gently wash the eye with a warm, slightly more than damp washcloth. You want to get the fur around the eye clean using very slight pressure. If your kitty's face were a clock, start at either 10 o'clock or 2 o'clock and wipe towards 5 and 7 o'clock. You can purchase, over the counter at your vet supply store, an ophthalmic antibiotic ointment for the eye. If you get some, use it very carefully, squeeze out a ribbon he length of his eye and VERY CAREFULLY place the ribbon of ointment in his eye, then close the eye for him. If he jumps or wiggles, you risk injuring the cornea and the problem is compounded.

You are a wonderful person for keeping him and not just taking him back for minor things that are usually easily fixed. Kudos to you.

Fast Ringworm Cure?

Ringworm is a fungal infection - not an actual worm. Should you get it you can use Tinactin or Lotrimin cream to cure it. It just sounds real icky. Keep doing what you are doing to prevent it. Use warm compresses on the eye. Many kittens have eye infections. Ask you pharmacist about boric acid eye wash that has helped some kittens I've had.

I have been volunteering at a cat rescue for over 2 years now, and recently we've had a ringworm outbreak. First of all, human treatments for antifungal are NOT recommended on cats. If they lick it, it could be toxic. We have vet treatment for all the cats at the shelter. You need to get your cat to a vet asap, it is the only proper treatment you can give. If you can't afford it, then don't get a fricken cat!!! (no offense!) As far as you not getting ringworm, good luck. I disinfected 100% at the shelter ALL the time, and i still got it. It was very immature of the seller of the kitten to not get treatment before putting the cats up for sale. It was very immature of you to bring the kitten home until the ringworm was gone.
I wish all the luck to you, and please seek vet treatment.

Warm some milk and dip a soft cloth into the milk. Gently rub the eye with the cloth and the matter will dissolve. It has a cold in its' eyes. Sometimes the mother cat will lick the eyes after the milk has been applied to the eyes. You may need to see a vet, but this is common in kittens.

if you believe in the power of prayer in God then i suggest you pray to the father through jesus and ask him to give this animal peace and comfort, until you can get him to a vet. it is really awesome that you care so much. this is what i would do if my cat boots is suffering.
