Its all up to you. My husband is 41 and Im 31 but we just had our first baby 4 months ago. I think 40 is a good age.

I think people make better parents and can handle it better in their late 30's/early 40's.
Congratulations to you for getting your new family at an age where you're more settled and can appreciate it more!!
At your age, you're also wiser and have seen more and will never have the feeling that you were raising kids when you could have been out enjoying your young life. You'll be better prepared to guide that child with advice from your own personal experiences down the road up to this point. The simple fact is you won't have resentment or feel like you're being held back by having to change diapers when you feel you should be out surfing or going to parties. You'll be able to relax and devote more time to your baby too...
Another bonus is that chances are your friends have already had kids that are older and they can give you a hand or word of advice....and they'll enjoy spending time with your baby and their kids are probably old enough to babysit for you!! HAHA!!
Sounds like you're doing things in the right order!!

Kind of late to ask that question as baby is on the way.
IMO, I'm too tired to chase after a baby/toddler and all the work to do everything that must be done with a child (I'm 40 myself and recently married). Also, I don't want to be retired and supporting a kid through college.
Hope you have lots of money and are willing to give up time alone with your spouce. Your life as you know it is now going to change forever.

I don't think age matters at all when it comes to starting a family, unless it is starting one too young. A friend of mine was the oldest child of three, and she was born when her mother was in her early forties. Their family is wonderful, the parents were mature and ready to have a family when they did. There is no perfect family, and no perfect age to start a family. If you are ready to start one, go for it. It may seem later than some start, but don't worry about that. Best of Luck!

It's really just a matter of opinion. In MY opinion, it's kinda late, and I probably wouldn't have. But if YOU and your partner feel it's right....go for it! I just always considered the added risk with age and pregnancy, the age you'll be at graduation and if you'll be around long enough for grandchildren and great grandchildren. I never liked the thought of my child only being 30 and me passing away. My grandmother's youngest child was 44 when she passed away and her oldest was over 62. I want my children to have a family, kids....people to hold when I am not around anymore. BUT again, MY opinion...doesn't mean it's right!

Why not, Better late than never. Many others who get married have their second or third child at your age. So please be assured 39 is good age to start your family. Congratulations and Best wishes.

If you are in good health having a baby at this age is fine. I wouldn't say its the ideal age to start a family though.

It is a great time to start a family. Being an older Mom usually comes with having more patience and more financial security. Congratulations on your marriage and your pregnancy.

My wife was 39 when we had the first of our three - it's a fine age as long as the woman's health is reasonably ok. Be aware tho, that there is some increased risk of pregnancy problems.

I don't think age matters so much as to weather you are truley in love and can afford a child. Kids are so expensive. Larry King had a child recently as well as Paul McCartney. So I think you are good on your age. Just be the best father to that child as you can.
Good luck !!
