My husband has always been allergic to my cat. His Mom could not stay at our house very long for the same reason. When my sister got divorced almost 2 years ago, it worked out well that she took my cat. Now she needs to break her lease and move back to our parent's house. They won't let her bring the cat (they have two already that do not get along with my cat - they are much younger and they fight.) My 2yo son battles asthma, I can't bring her here. No one we know wants to take her. She is almost 15 - years old. Do I put her to sleep?

Is she healthy??? then no...do not put her to sleep...let her still have a life....even if it has to be at the animal shelter. Better yet...put a ad in the local paper or on petfinder.com andsay your circumstances and this is her last chance...someone will defintely come forward. I feel for you but i defintely would not put it to sleep.

You DO NOT put an animal to sleep if there's nothing wrong with it!!!! You have a couple options; if your husband goes to his doctor, he can get an allergy shot. Alot of people do this for this very reason and have success with it. You could consider taking her to a no-kill shelter. That way you would know she's being taken care of. Or you could post a sign up at where you or your hubby works, explaining why you need to find another home for her. If you put an ad in the paper, that would be okay but you really have to screen the people that respond to the ad; medical research labs get alot of their animals that way, especially if the ads says the animal's free, and I don't think you want your kitty to be put throught that torture. As for your mother-in-law, all she has to do is take some allery pills. I'm sure she'll survive. One more thing you might want to check out is a nursing home. Some homes have cats that live there and have the run of the place. The residents love having them around. It's worth a shot, isn't it? It's better that putting her down. Good luck!

Don't put her to sleep, just because no one you know wants to take her in doesn't mean no one does at all. If she is a sweet loving cat I'm sure someone who saw her in a shelter would want to give her a home to live out her life. Make sure to bring her to a no kill shelter so they will not put her down if she isn't adopted after a certain amount of time. You must still love this cat and I'm sure you don't want to kill something you love, personally I think a shelter is really the best option, someone will be able to take her in, she could be a great companion for an older person. Some nursing homes even have cats that just live there and sort of belong to all of the residents who might not have anyone else anymore. Maybe try checking with your local nursing homes to see if they do that and would want to take in an older cat as a companion for their residents. Good luck.

I never advocate euthanasia for animals. 'Putting to sleep' sounds so innocent. Imagine taking your gentle and loving cat out behind the shed and shooting it in the head with a rifle, splattering blood all over the ground. 'Putting to sleep' is just about as humane as a bullet in the head.

Murdering a beloved pet is not an option when they simply become no longer 'convenient'.

If you can not keep the pet any longer, then drive the cat to the closest shelter. There the cat can find a new home or at the very least live out the remainder of its life in relative comfort. Most shelters around here have a policy of never killing animals, no matter how long they stay there.

No you shouldn't put the cat to sleep! The only reason you should ever do that is because the cat is ill and there is no cure or its in some sort of pain and no medication will help it. I would put some ads up in the newspaper. Make sure when people are asking to adopt the cat you do a background check on them. There are some sickos out there that'll take the cat and neglect it, abuse it, or even worse.

If she puking because of an illness or disease? And by saying insane are you referring that to her behavior, is she a wild cat? If you think that she will not calm her ways down and the puking will not stop because of an untreated illness and she is suffering than yes put her to sleep. But if she is a young cat, than her insanity will become milder with age, and she could make a good pet for someone. Its your decision, make the right one, and ask yourself these questions....what is causing her to vomit, will someone out there love her for who she is, is she insane as is a young cat with allot of energy. Then make your decision whether to put her down or not. Just think how she would feel if she knew what you were thinking about instead of giving her a second chance...many people would like a hyper insane cat. Good Luck.

Just because a cat is old and no one wants her doesnt mean she dosent have somegood years left in her. I would suggest asking a grandmother or an elderly person many of them need a companion, exspecially one who is already trained. If youcant find someone put an ad in the paper, as a last resort take her to a shelter

Your cat is quite old (1 year cat = 5 year human) so, if i am mathematically correct, your cat is 75 year old human year !!!, wow you had been a good care taker, good job there.

for me, i like the cat to died gracefully, if you love the cat why dint you find other alternative so that the cat can be taken care by some body else, and at the same time you can still visit the cat whenever you like.

in my opinion putting to sleep not just cat, but any pet is a cruel thing, unless the cat generally suffered from anything that leads to death it can be executed

No , don't put her to sleep ,that would brake my heart , I had the same problem ,take her to a warm loving family ,(cats live a very long time ,so let the cat live ,I had to have to many cat put to sleep because of medical problems ,and it kills me when I have to do it , so either take the cat to the shelter ,a cat and dog pound ,and hopfully they will find a family for it , but mostly try to find the family first before you think about a pound and ect.. because they will put her to sleep ,if no one adopts her .

Rather than putting her to sleep I would recommend contacting your local animal shelter. You might be surprised how many people prefer a mature pet, especially seniors who would like company for the last few years of their lives, but don't want to leave a burden for their children.
I would also contact your veterinarian. They sometimes know families who are looking for a specific animal and are able to assist in placing pets in the proper household. This has a great benefit: if your vet knows the people, they also know how well they take care of their other pets, and will be able to recommend future owners who are responsible pet owners.
Finally, I would recommend placing an ad in the local paper. Many papers allow you to list free pets for no charge - allowing you to screen potential new owners.
If all these sources fail, only then would I consider euthanasia.
Good Luck!

Does she act like she hurts or has big health issues? There are cat sanctuarries out there for cats in similar situations. Or you could put her on pet finders. There is someone out there who would be glad to help a old cat out w/ the last few years of her life. kinda selfish to kill her just b/c you don't want her anymore, and don't want to like a litter further into finding her a home than your small circle.
