Hi, John Paul, it does impress me that you are in the Army. I think it is wonderful that you have direction and care about your country, unless you are doing it to impress women haha. My grandfather was in the military, and I had nothing but respect for him. My advice is to just be yourself, of course, I do understand that you are ARMY, but there is more to you than that. Relax, and be yourself. The right person will come along.

Unfortuantley a lot of guys in the army use it as a pick up line - I'm sure you know this. Half the time, if a guy says he's in the army, girls probably won't believe it anyway becuase they'd think it was apick up line! When introducing yourself to some one for the first time, leave out the "I'm in the army" bit. Just tell her about it when you're talking about waht jobs you do.

You shouldn't feel awkward. Not all girls are into the army boys. I just got out of a LTR with someone that's in the military. He came home from Iraq and I got dumped. We'd been together for 4 years. So for example me personally it would be very hard to accept an invite/pickup line from someone in the Army. Just try being yourself and you'll find someone that will want to be with you for who you are

John Paul - you work in the army and you also claim sickness benefit? (I have read some of your other questions)
I always thought that you had to have a certain level of intelligence to get into the army - judging from your literacy levels I would say that you have not even passed GCSE English - so honey, keep on the pipe dreams and good luck with your GCSEs this summer!!! LOL

When you are 18 give me a holler

I dont think the fact you are in the army would impress me. Your personality and ability to carry a conversation would carry more weight. Why cant you just say 'Hi Im Paul nice to meet you' why must your career come into the equation straight away?

Ignore the other answer, This is a forces MAN talking to you. Your problem is that you have to not only impress the girls but also your platoon who are guys, right. I know when i wear my royal marine corps t-shirt, I have to not only impress the women, my troop but my civvy male friends as well. But its confidence try talking to a girl who you rate as a 1/10 and i promise you that it will snow ball. If you crash and burn who cares, if the troop laughs at you tell them everybody needs a little sugar from time to time. Someone once said a Great leap starts with a small step. take that and get yourself out there because sooner or later she will want to see you in your uniform, and its worth it.

Why do you feel the need to tell someone what you do for a living before you even know their name or if they could care less? Maybe you feel awkward because you know that mentioning your job early in the conversation is not really relevant and you know you are using it to impress rather than really being interested in the person you are speaking to or them being interested in you. Sounds like you're ready to change your approach and get a response for who you are not just what job you do! Good Luck :-)

It dose sound like a pickup line! why not just say, Hi my name is John whats yours, then talk about her, show some interest in the lady and wait until you are asked what you do, a woman likes to be listened to.

Try my favorite line......

Hi John,
Are those space pants your wearing???

Cause your ars is out of this world!!!

PS- Army, only impresses hoe bags who don't have jobs looking for quick sugar daddy. Don't get me wrong, all of my family is military, my dad is an ex marine. But any girl who jumps cause you said ARMY, is a hoe looking for a meal. Army, doctor, lawyer or cleaner..... it's all respectable work.

How about trying soething different like you look nice tonight and smiling or making eye contact then as convo progresses if the person is interested maybe then ask for her name allowing you to give yours then ask her lots of open questions in the hope she will do the same giving you the opportunity to say what you do. A genuine smile and being interested will also help convos along
