you need a broadband connection!

AFTER READING YOUR UPDATE....
they do have wireless adapters for both the xbox & 360
you will still need a router though

When you say wirless laptop I assume you have a modem?

No im a girl and I have one sorry you nead to get a router then you can have x box live and ther about $100
