I have a 5 month old male kitten and all of a sudden he has got really stinky! When you pick him up he leaves a really cheesy feet kind if smell on your hands.

I think he might be getting ready to spray - is this what it is?

It could be. Watch for him. Cause once that smell gets in your carpet you cant get it out. I had that happen and we had to tear up the carpet and padding and replace it all.

Good Luck ; )

Male cats dont usually start spraying until 6 months of age. I suggest that you get him neutered as soon as you can to prevent him from spraying when it's time.

My male kitty is 6 months, and..well....farts. A lot! If I pick him up my sleeve will smell like kitty farts. Before I got him neutered it was worse, but now he is smelling a lot better.

Look at his diet, make sure he is getting proper kitty nutrients. You also may want to take a baby wipe and wipe his rear. This helps a lot more than you think.

Good luck.

If he is only 5 months he is probably not spraying yet, but you should get him fixed as soon as possible. He is plenty old enough at 5 months to be fixed and the longer you wait the more your chances increase that he will start spraying. And if he does it's too late, fixing him won't stop it once he starts.

As for the smell, just give him a bath.

If your kitten is 5 moths old, he is too young for spraying. If the 'cheesy" smell comes from his feet, he may be carrying a fungus, or has some other skin problems. The 'spraying' doesn't smell like cheesy feet.

At Pet Smart, they have baby wipes and shampoos just for cats.

If you have a Humane Society close by, see what days they spay and nueter cats. You'll pay under $35.

I found the Humane Society's prices a lot cheaper than a vet's office.

cat pee smells like ammonia, so the cheesy smell dosnt sound like it, however get him fixed or the spraying will commence in a month or so, while he is there ask the vet why your cat smells like cheese, it could be fungus, or he could be rolling in something when you are not looking!

It might be. He is old enough to be neutered.

Now, there are other conditions that might cause an odor. So a check-up is in order in any case.

Good luck!
