The Colt 45 is a kind of generic term for two different guns.
The Peacemaker Colt 45 is a single action revolver that is chambered for the 45 Long Colt bullet.
The Colt 1911 45 is a semi auto pistol chambered for the 45 ACP (Automatic Cartridge Pistol)

The Colt Single Action Army handgun, also known as the Colt Peacemaker or Single Action Army, is a single action revolver holding 6 rounds of ammunition. It was designed for the US cavalry by Colt's Manufacturing Company and adopted in 1873, and it was perhaps the most prolific pistol in the wild west. It is sometimes referred to as the 'Colt .45', and should not be confused with the M1911 semi-automatic pistol, which is usually referred to as the '.45 auto'.

It's also a brand of beer (or malt liquor) introduced by National Bohemian and currently brewed by Pabst Brewing Company and G. Heileman Brewing Company in Texas. While Colt 45 has been criticized for its very strong hop taste, many drinkers enjoy its high alcohol content -- a common quality of malt liquor. It tends to be cheaper than most other beers in the United States, a quality partially responsible for its popularity.

"Colt 45" literally refers to a brand of malt liquor. In the gun culture it usually is slang for the John Browning designed Colt model 1911 series, but can also be used to describe the Colt SAA (Single-Action Army) .45 Long Colt revolver.
